El Javea Town Hall has obtained a grant of 40.000 euros for the restoration works of the Iglesia Fortaleza de San Bartolomé in the municipality, a building considered an Asset of Cultural Interest in the Monument category.
This line of aid promoted by the Provincial Council of Alicante was aimed at municipal heritage assets and churches and established that, even if the property was not municipally owned (as is the case of the church-fortress of Xàbia) it could be the City Council who request and process all documentation to achieve the
grant.
The rehabilitation project, considered an emergency, was necessary to repair cracks and especially the leaks in the nave, the sacristy and the communion chapel that were structurally damaging this jewel of Valencian Gothic architecture. The works were promoted by the parish, which is the owner of the property, and concluded in 2021, accumulating a cost of 445.680 euros. With this subsidy of 40.000 euros (the maximum of this provincial line) 8% of the total cost is covered.
Aware of what this investment meant for the coffers of the parish, from the Xàbia City Council all the collaboration was provided from the outset to find lines of aid that fit (that the Consistory is not its owner makes it difficult to access many of the calls ) or technically support the parish itself in which it requests directly.
