Historical Xàbia demands urgent solutions to the City council

14 March 2018 - 16: 10

"For us it is a sad day because we have to meet to say that winter is being very bad for small entrepreneurs", thus began the appearance of the president of Xàbia Histórica, Juan Planelles, accompanied by several associates who demanded the Town hall investments in the Historic Center of Xàbia.

The fear that traders have, as Planelles has indicated, is "The lack of influx of visitors in the old town out of season is the result of some mistakes that were made in Xàbia a long time ago and have not been corrected."

The president of the Association of Merchants of Historical Xàbia insisted that they invest within their possibilities, "But what is needed is not in the hands of the merchants and businessmen, it is not a problem only of the merchants, it is a citizen problem, since the Historic Center is getting worse and today is the day to call on the public authorities to solve the problems ".

Juan Planelles made mention of the proposal presented a year ago from the Association to the City Council to revitalize the old town, the Decalogue of the Sorolla Project, which, after several meetings with the councilor and the mayor are waiting for an answer.

Before this question, the president of Xàbia Histórica stressed that urgent events are needed in which they act quickly, "But the consequences are being serious for the commercial and hospitality fabric of the old town."

The merchants of the historic center of Xàbia ask the public authorities to take the demands once and for all. "That the money to be invested be invested since they are also in the common interest of all xabieros"added Planelles.

In the meeting on Wednesday, all the associates present wore a black ribbon as a sign of the fears that are breaking. The president of the merchants boasted how good things are in other areas of Xàbia such as the port and the Arenal, "We are happy for our colleagues but we want that in the historic center you can also work and live with dignity".

Central Cinema and Municipal Market

Planelles pointed out that the responses of the City Council have never been concrete, "They have always been vague, there is no solution in the Central Cinema, the project was discarded, there is no plan to beautify the houses and the Municipal Market should be one of the strengths of the historic center to have a better functioning ".

On the Market, Juan indicated that the owner, that is, the City Council, "I should take care of him. There are more and more closed stops, there is no improvement and management modernization project, there is neglect, carelessness and little desire to work".

With regard to the bus line, the president of Xàbia Histórica said that currently, what is now bothered by the dimensions, "The macro bus is disastrous and you have to modernize a town, port and sand line."

Merchants complaints

Also the associates showed their complaints making reference to that in Xàbia there should not be so many large surfaces and they asked the councilor of markets that "Go more for the market and buy less online". According to the merchants, "Families living in the old town go to the port to buy".

Regarding the law approved by the City Council on the painting of the facades of houses, "The consistory does not apply this law and should start with public buildings because, for example, the Candelaria House is about to fall."

The merchants showed their discomfort by saying that "Xàbia is a farmhouse" y "We do not have the power but the right to kick."

The bus line is not only annoying because its size for me is poorly managed because except Thursdays the market is always half empty. THE SCHEDULE IS NOT BAD, IT IS LOUD. Seeing older people waiting for excessive times, it does not matter if it's hot or cold, it's intolerable. Javea has grown and much in housing (safe money for the City Council) but its infrastructure in terms of transport is painful and shameful

      You're right, Begoña.
Normally and more in summer I usually go to the town market always by bus, because I don't drive. Timetables are suffering and buses are disastrous for the elderly. You cannot carry a small shopping cart, they are not buses for excursions, not for public transport, and since the Triana bridge is not fixed, it is delayed and does not meet schedules, it is only interesting to cross the bridge when there are parties or other events ... well ... very bad.
If I add the cancellation of TOSCAMAR's lifelong stoppage, we lose the users and the market entrepreneurs (I suppose), adding that we also have serious risks for people on the route without light and without platforms that we have from Toscamar to the next stop of the International School. I hope and believe as many people in this area that these problems should be reviewed because they are important, I think that this vote that is done to be satisfied citizens with public transport clearly says that a very high percentage does not agree. Take measurements please. Thank you.
