Xàbia authorizes the hospitality industry to occupy the public thoroughfare for free until May 31, 2021

02 December 2020 - 15: 19

El Javea Town Hall, within the measures to support the hospitality sector due to the health crisis, has expanded the permission granted to bars and restaurants so that they occupy more space on public roads and can offer service on their terraces -therefore compensating for capacity restrictions in the interior of the premises - with all the guarantees of sanitary security.

The authorization expired at the end of this year, December 31, and now they are granted an extension until May 31, 2021, provided that the extraordinary health regulations by COVID and municipal ordinances are complied with.

In addition, the Consistory will not charge them the occupancy rate this year 2021, a direct support from the local administration that will stop paying about 200.000 euros in this concept.

The municipal inspection service is distributing a circular informing of this extension and recalling the essential points of the current regulations: only 30% interior capacity is allowed and 50% on the terrace; The public highway can only be occupied upon request and within the space marked by municipal technicians; Fixed elements or side awnings or enclosures that hinder good ventilation (one of the main preventive measures against the virus) and that the maximum number of diners per table is restricted to 6 people cannot be installed.

The City Council recalls that failure to comply with these measures entails sanctions and immediate removal from the terrace for 30 days and in the event of a repeat offense, the loss of authorization permanently.
