«X TriXàbia Memorial Edu Monfort», by Juan Legaz Palomares

25 September 2022 - 08: 30

I read on Jávea.com/Xàbia.com the tribute to the Javiense athlete, Eduardo Monfort who, unfortunately, lost his life in his youth due to an unfortunate accident on the road, while practicing sports on a bicycle with other colleagues. Without going into details, I remember the news like it was yesterday. A driver in strange and unusual conditions ran over Edu and other colleagues with her vehicle, some of whom also died as a result of the collision.

At the moment I read the news of the celebration of the tenth TriXàbia Memorial Edu Monfort, the few neurons that I have left lucid lit up to extol Edu's memory, and praise the organizers, participants and all those who, in one way or another, knew the work of good old Eduardo. It is always praiseworthy to honor those people who, with their sporting or cultural example, show us their generosity in favor of society.

I knew Edu briefly and also his parents, but I recognize that he was a noble, friendly, athletic boy, and a young man with great enthusiasm for promoting sports, camaraderie and, above all, friendship. He is one of the ways to promote understanding, respect and good manners among youth and, especially, to love and be loved.

Edu was a young man full of life, illusion, strength and conciliatory spirit among young people to try to make a fairer, more egalitarian society, with less irrational and abusive selfishness. I remember that the last time I saw him alive he was donating blood at the Casal de la Mare de Déu de Loreto in the annual donation that is made under the name: “Dionís Henarejos Blood Donation Marathon”. And it is that, on that same day, a son of mine (Alfonso), also donated blood. Edu suffered a slight dizziness at the end of the donation, but he recovered immediately, since he was a boy in good health.

In this tenth TRIXÀBIA, athletes from the entire Marina Alta region and from other parts of Spain will come to pay a well-deserved tribute to Edu and, in the depths of their hearts, the desire will beat fervently that, from his glorious life in heaven , will help them so that sport and friendship are founded in a fraternal embrace and are pillars for young people to enjoy a better, more respectful, prosperous, less violent and kinder world.

All the young people and athletes who will participate in the tenth TRIXÀBIA, in your memory Edu, will feel and perceive in their hearts the rattle of warmth, emotion and happiness of a great athlete and a kind and generous person, they will feel proud to have met you , and they will live a sporty and joyful day that made you so happy. A round of applause for all the participants, for the Town hall, for the Llebeig Athletics Club and for all those who support and make it possible for this well-deserved tribute to Edu to be celebrated.

Edu, I think you will be in heaven, and there, in that eternal abode where there is no hatred, no rancor, no envy, no greed, but infinite happiness and peace, there, I am sure you will ask the Eternal Father for the protection of Jávea, for the family, for sport, for culture, for friendship and, above all, for love and understanding among all the people of the world. Your kindness and dedication were aimed at achieving a better world.

EDU IN ETERNAL GLORY REST IN PEACE!

Carmen were three lis who died

In my humble opinion, X Trixàbia could be in memory of the two cyclists who died in the fatal accident, Luis Alberto Contreras and Eduardo Monfort, since they were both residents of Jávea and Luis Alberto, not least because he was not the son of the mayor.

Unfortunately, there were three deceased, the TriXàbia is a memorial to Edu Monfort and the Volta a Peu is a memorial to José Antonio Albi, the only one who does not have a memorial is Luis Alberto Contreras, who I understand (not sure) was not born in Xàbia but if he did reside, draw your conclusions which, I imagine, will be the same as mine. Rest in peace and encouragement to the families, these things never get over no matter how long it takes.
