Summer in Xàbia: An 331% more population and same resources

August 08 from 2019 - 07: 58

That Xàbia is in fashion is more than evident. With the passage of time, its coves, beaches, leisure areas, streets and monuments welcome a significant number of visitors. And, of course, it has several charming places and that are the attraction of the large influx of tourists who bring economy to the town.

Specifically, Xàbia registers a growth of 331% in summer and passes from just over 27.000 inhabitants to a seasonal population of about 117.000, which is an 4,3% more, according to data from the Marina Alta Observatory.

The work and the measures to control the massification becomes effective with the summer arrival, but Xàbia is still a small municipality that faces the increase of visitors with the resources of a few. Xàbia becomes a city and tries to address, in the best way, the increase in population: Regulation of access to the most visited coves, closure to others for security, and increased services.

Although there are only about 27.000 censored people, Xàbia increases its number of inhabitants with those of second residence, summer residents, visitors and tourists. Positive figures for the economic engine of Xàbia and for which we work to maintain them, but always, taking care and respecting our area, our coastline and our places, which attract and monopolize in social networks and magazines.

With the increase in population, the lack of personnel and personnel, it is clear that it is necessary, but with the collaboration of citizens, the work would be easier. The simple fact of respecting the rules and being civic, would help to enjoy the image and landscape of Xàbia, without bringing consequences to the usual residents.

ERIKA, Congratulations once again. You have more reason than a Saint, even if you preach in the desert for municipal autism. And another request to our beloved municípes RESET the water in the fountains. I AM CONVINCED THAT MANY THANK YOU.

    • Erika says:

Thanks Fernando. I did not know that they had removed the water in the fountains, the truth is that there is a tremendous problem with the water and with as many people as it comes to Javea in August and it is not easy to get it to reach us all. But in the sources it is necessary, especially for the little ones with the heat that it is doing, although many people do not drink tap water, I do not know why, since it is perfectly drinkable.

I totally agree that the problem is the excessive building that this city council is allowing, thinking only of income. As Erika says, they are destroying the beauty of Javea, as well as contributing to its massification. The tourist has always sought the peace and tranquility that Javea offers compared to other destinations in the Marina Alta. However, given the overcrowding, I wonder where our taxes go. These, which says the article, non-residents and owners, who come on vacation, pay excessive taxes taking into account that they have neither public lighting, drinking water, or sewage network. I wonder what they do with our money. Not enough to reinforce basic services? How does the City Council use it? As Erika has commented, it is a problem of inefficient management. Enough of hurtful comments towards civic, responsible citizens who meet their tax obligations without receiving basic public services.

  3. Erika says:

It is clear that overcrowding has been a problem for a long time. But apartment blocks continue to be built, destroying the beautiful traditional architecture of Jávea (the last example, Villa María, demolished to build another horribly ugly building), and the proliferation of yachts and small boats that destroy, when anchoring, the posidonia in several coves. And expecting tourists to be consistent, civic, polite and respectful is optimistic that I would already like it. Unquestionably, there are, but they are the least. Cleaning Services do what they can, they are completely overwhelmed and you can't ask for more. Wouldn't it be possible to increase the staff during the month of August? And don't tell me that there is no budget, that taxes would more than cover all of this with proper planning and without spending money on other totally unnecessary things. Anyway, I know this is preaching in the desert ...

    • Bernhard says:

In my opinion, everything derives from the first problem that Erika has diagnosed so well. The vast majority of tourists are "consistent, civic, polite and respectful", but you cannot build summer apartments and then sell them with the slogan "The best for you and your boat" and expect the buyer to leave his boat at home. Or charge 1000 € a week and say not to go to the beach because it is overcrowded. And 120.000 people get dirty, no matter how careful they are. The problem lies in the massive construction. We must stop it now!
