Urologists at Dénia Hospital present in Sweden a novel technique against pelvic organ prolapse

04 September 2019 - 14: 25

The Urology team at the Dénia Hospital presents a novel surgical technique at the beginning of this September in the Swedish city of Gothenburg that minimally invasively corrects pelvic organ prolapse caused by weakness of the pelvic floor.

The Dianense delegation, formed by urologists, José Vicente Baldissera, Rebeca Polo, Francisco Merenciano, Manuel Amat and Roberto Ferrero; In addition to the specialist in Radiological Interventionism, Abel Gregorio and the Operating Room nurse, Cristina Costell, will present the oral communication at the annual Congress of the International Continence Society -ICS- "Latero-abdominal colposuspension: description of the technique, advantages and preliminary results".

The technique, which already received an award at the 53º Congress of the Association of Urology of the Valencian Community, held last March in Valencia, is a pioneer in the Valencian Community and very new, both nationally and internationally. According to the head of the Urology department, Dr. Ferrero: "The objective of the same is the correction of the prolapse of the female pelvic organs by laparoscopy. To do this, we use mesh, which is placed through the abdomen, which is accessed through a series of minimal incisions. "

According to doctors Polo and Baldissera “The new technique avoids the approach of the posterior area of the female pelvis, which minimizes the risk of complications. The preliminary results are being satisfactory for the patients and optimal from the surgical point of view ”.

The Hospital de Dénia Urology Service has extensive experience in this type of surgery but, with the application of the new technique, better results are achieved: a shorter surgical time, lower risk of complications and a rapid return to daily life.
