A young javiense teaches school to care for a garden

With only 17 years, the young Andrea Briones has managed to launch an educational project under the name Educational garden Arenal He has taught more than 260 children to care for a garden.

It all started with the participation of Andrea in youth social entrepreneurship program, ActionxChange, the United World Colleges Foundation, which agreed after presenting their project. Andrea and other young people from different nationalities 33 during 15 days shared experiences, ideas and thoughts to develop their projects.

After such intense, and back to Jávea experience, Andrea presented his project to the school principal Arenal and after getting the cooperation of the Department of Environment Javea Town Hall and the Telefónica Foundation funding through a comxicotetion, classes began.

At first they had a plot of 50 square meters, and the first 40 children, in third grade, learned the benefits of eating fruits and vegetables. All of them made the seedbeds, the direct sowing and later the transplant. They planted artichokes, tomatoes, broccolis, strawberries, lettuce, chard and carrots. They pounded, weed, pruned, fertilized ... they took care of their plants with care.

And seen success among children of this experience, the school decided to Andrea and his project, extending it to primary school pupils in three plots of 150 square meters.

For Andrea this experience has been "Very rewarding and enriching, I have learned and enjoyed a lot". This brave young javiense encourages people "To have an idea, a project, a dream, to fight for it, to be passionate and to have tenacity and perseverance".
