The Poble Nou de Benitatxell takes the first step to harmonize the urban center and make it more accessible to people. Thanks to a grant of 89.780,77 euros from the Alicante Provincial Council, the street has been rehabilitated
Llebeig, a high-traffic road that connects the central La Pau street with the Plaza de les Pesqueres and with municipal spaces such as the School of Music, the Social Center or the Health Center.
A few days ago the works were concluded, which included, among other actions, the resurfacing of the ground, the beautification of the facades, the incorporation of garden areas and benches, and the improvement of lighting. This is intended to provide the population with a safe passage area for pedestrians and, at the same time, offer a pleasant and green place for recreation and rest.
In addition, one of the elements that does not go unnoticed is the huge door that, with the signs 'Carrer Llebeig', welcomes the street. It is a unique piece that aims to preserve the urban fabric of facades with large portals on Calle La Pau. That is, to combine functionality and respect for the configuration of urban space. In addition, it also serves to protect La Pau street from the Llebeig wind - hence the name of the street - on the days of greatest intensity.
“In 2005, what was a house with a marked village character, was overthrown and turned into a street with a primary aspect, in a wound in the heart of the urban area of the municipality. Fixing this wound has been achieved by arranging a portal that, mixing a current aspect and traditional criteria in the use of the
materials (such as wood and the forging of the typical portals), allows a street and a façade to be created that heals the void that had been generated ", has explained the Councilor for Urban Planning, Jorge Pascual.
This action is part of a large-scale project to provide charm and make the old town of the municipality more attractive and safe. Thus, Llebeig street will be the prelude to another large-scale intervention: a green, multifunctional Plaça de les Pesqueres with recreational spaces for people.
