The writer and journalist, Toni Reig Pérez, has been the winner of I Prize Antoni Lluis Carrió , of research and essay granted by the Institut d`Estudis Comarcals de la Marina Alta. An award called a year ago by this entity to which four works of research and essay work on different themes and authors were presented.

Toni Reig writer and journalist Dianense

The jury was made up of Rosa Seser, president of l`IECMA and director of the Municipal file of Dénia. Carme Miquel, writer, Joan Borja, professor at the University of Alicante. Carles X. Simó, professor at the University of Valencia and Joan Ivars, professor tutor at UNED and secretary of l`IECMA and of the jury for this award.

The prize went to the dianense writer and journalist, for the work presented with the title Histories of criminals and criminals of the Marina Alta (1844-1932). It contains a series of criminal cases in a period ranging from the mid-nineteenth century to the first third of the twentieth century.

The excellent documentation of the time collected by the author allows him to recreate the extreme situations of conflict that always result in crimes that were generally solved by the law, at a time when the death penalty was present in Spanish legislation.

The scenarios of these events are the towns of the region; Dénia, Jávea, Senija, Pego, Ondara ..., and affect various social classes; gentlemen, farmers, officers ... As an added value it should be noted that each story has an unprecedented illustration of prominent artists such as Castejón, Ramón Pérez Carrión, Andrés Jaén, Dani Sanchis, Txin and some more.

It is a job that the jury has valued very positively for their contributions to the knowledge of some facts, that if in their day caused great social commotion, time had left them in oblivion. Toni Reig brings them back to light to make known a little better part of our history almost recent.
