They steal more than 50 sewer traps and rain grids from the streets of Xàbia

11 March 2021 - 12: 53

The councilor for Services of Xàbia, Kika Mata, has filed a complaint this morning at the Civil Guard barracks for the theft of more than 50 sewer traps and storm drains in the municipality. The theft occurred in two areas of the town: the El Garroferal urbanization in the Montgo and the block of Garcilaso de la Vega, Tapies and Antonio Machado streets.

Municipal staff and the Local Police have reviewed these areas and others to verify the extent of the theft and plan the replacement of material. And it is that, in addition to the economic loss (the stolen material and the work to install it is valued at about 10.000 euros), this type of crime poses a danger to traffic and pedestrians since the gaps due to the lack of the stolen grid can lead to an accident.

From the Javea Town Hall Neighbors are asked to notify the Police in the case of observing strange movements through the urbanizations or seeing someone take the sewer covers. Local agents will also strengthen preventive surveillance to try to surprise the robbers.

Likewise, with the complaint in the Civil Guard it is intended that, in addition to trying to identify the thieves, they investigate who could be receiving those sewage grids of illicit origin.
