Ban on bonfires on the beach

21 June 2016 - 16: 57

El Town hall de Xabia recalls that lighting bonfires on the beaches is something that is prohibited both in the citizen coexistence ordinance (article 147 section 5) and by the General Directorate of Coasts. That is why, on the night of June 23, special surveillance will be carried out to control this practice that affects both the safety and health of users and the integrity of the environment. In addition, it will entail fines of up to 750 euros for those responsible. Likewise, the Department of Citizen Security calls for responsibility for practices recently common on the night of Sant Joan and that also pose a great risk of fire, such as the launching of flying candles.

Crowd of people participate by jumping the fogueras

On the contrary, from the City Council all residents and tourists are encouraged to join the traditional celebration of this night in Xàbia; the Nit dels Focs, a festival declared of Tourist Interest and that takes place in the Historic Center.

The celebrations will begin at midnight on Thursday 23 in June at the Portal del Clot and include the bonfires jump located in the old gates of la vila, la cremà of the foguera de tackle vells or with a correfocs that runs the route of the rounds. A night starred by fire and rituals in which thousands of participants were dressed in crowns of Murta and ask for wishes taking advantage of the summer solstice.
