The Poble Nou de Benitatxell starts the restoration of a quarry that had become a landfill. The lands, in a green area of the Puig Llorença, correspond to an abandoned quarry that was converted into a shooting range, and where uncontrolled dumping of all kinds has taken place over the years: debris, pruning remains, pavement remains Asphalt, material from construction sites, tires out of use, paint cans, mattresses, etc.
The works of clearing and movement of earths, adaptation of the way and improvement of the vegetation are being carried out by the Provincial Delegation of Alicante with an investment of 20.000 euros. Also, on the margins of the access road to the area there were also discharges as well as invasive vegetation that are already being removed.
In addition to the degradation of the environment, it is considered a priority to minimize the risk of fire that can be produced by the combustion of existing flammable materials taking into account the existence of forest land adjacent to the plot.
It is also envisaged to improve the vegetation with selective clearing, eliminating the invasive vegetation and respecting all the species of interest such as rosemary, lavender, and mastic. The works, which began last week, have an expected duration of two months.
