Since the state of alarm was declared by the coronavirus alert, it was stated that the food supply was going to be guaranteed. So that, for the moment, there is fresh product, the primary sector is working to supply businesses. Proof of this are the fishermen of Xàbia who have moved to the province of Castellón to supply the needs of citizens.
For two weeks, and due to the little fishing that exists in this area, several boats from the Xàbia fishermen's association have moved to the port of Vinarós to work. As explained by the president of the Brotherhood, Pepe Serrat, "We are fishing a lot of anchovies and sardines, fish that will go directly to Mercadona, which is who we work for right now". Serrat added that this week, due to the bad weather ahead and the holiday that has been contemplated, "We have only worked this Monday and we hope that on Friday, but until we are allowed we will come to Vinarós to work".
Regarding the preventive measures for the coronavirus, the president of the brotherhood has indicated that the sailors are using masks and gloves throughout the fishing day.
