05 March 2019 - 00: 04

During this month, the council of equality of Javea Town Hall celebrates activities in the framework of Women's Day and in our special week on the occasion of this anniversary we interview today the writer and former teacher, Pepa Guardiola.

Pepa, the second of six children, was born into a family of farmers, teacher and writer, "When I worked I considered myself more teacher than writer and in my spare time it was when I wrote, now, retired, between saying retired teacher or writer prefers the latter", review our protagonist today.

Guardiola, is a member of the socialist party since 1991, was councilor of the City Council of Xàbia and currently active in the feminist movement, member of riuraus Vius and the Xarxa de Dones of the Marina Alta, comments to Xàbia.com that equality "Fortunately it has changed, not only inside the house, in the public office is where it is most noticeable. Before the woman did not practice in the political sphere, in fact I was the first woman to introduce myself as head of the list in the municipalities" . On this decision, Pepa points out that at that time phrases like "This one wants to be mayor, who has thought she is" and he adds that now it's a normal thing, "Parity has been achieved and a recent example is that there are more women than men on the PSOE list."

The woman at school

The xabiera points out that in school there have always been more women than men, "But in the rest of the professions the role of women was minimal, they were queens or saints. Then everything has changed, in the media and in the professions. Women are already in universities."

In important changes that have taken place, Guardiola remembers that in 1974 the women did not have right to have a booklet or book of savings of the bank, "My first teacher's book was in the name of my husband and I was co-owner. On the other hand, in matters of laws, removing the law of abortion, in which now a party wants to go back in time, the laws have changed but customs have not. "

Pepa Guardiola has not stopped and does not stop every day to fight and make known the figure of women in all areas. The next March 13 will receive recognition from Catalan writers for their literary career. Our protagonist today expresses feeling good about the work done at the educational level, "I think I have done my job and I feel flattered with the greeting on the street of my former students."
