He already spent a few years in politics and thought he had seen almost everything. But no. The Poble Nou de Benitatxell has lived a plenary session in which the opposition (Compromís, the independents of Nieves García and the councilor not attached Toni Colomer) made a decision to which, no matter how many laps we have given him, we still can not find an explanation. I said it last night. The opposition acted with total irresponsibility. He showed that he is more montorist than Montoro himself, the minister of finance who has suffocated the municipalities that, like the Poble Nou de Benitatxell, we have made a huge effort to correct previous deficits and now we have a healthy economic situation and we generate, year after year, a positive remnant of treasury.
The spending rule, contained in the Administration's Law of Sustainability and Rationality, which makes municipalities pay the excesses of the Government and the rescue of the bank (if there is a surplus, this law obliges the banks to pay first), it is the great "contribution" of Montoro. The municipalities of progress, which defend social spending and investment in the quality of life of their neighbors, are opposed without exception to this spending rule. But our opposition applauds her and, because of what was seen yesterday in the plenary session, she is in favor of punishing the municipalities and neighbors even more.
What happened in the plenary was the following. The government team (Movimiento Red, PP and Pideb) brought a modification of credits that contained urgent works to be carried out on streets that carry 40 years without receiving any investment. It is a matter of interest, which concerns our neighbors. It was noted with his massive attendance at the plenary session. It had been years since so many neighbors had come to a plenary session. The investment was intended to resurface several streets and install public lighting. Those who live there are tired of avoiding holes and potholes. And they have every right in the world to ask that their streets be lit. They feel more secure and improve their quality of life.
The investment had all the favorable reports. The legal report endorsed that it was an economically sustainable investment and that, therefore, it fulfilled all the requirements of the aforementioned expenditure rule. The municipal technicians had also made the list of priorities. The urgency to act in certain streets was covered in their reports.
But the opposition insisted on voting against. He asserted his majority in the corporation to reject a totally necessary investment. For once, the technical reports and the clamor of the neighbors coincided. The opposition made an exercise of irresponsibility and political blindness. Machaconamente, he repeated that there was "doubts of illegality". The secretary himself, who is the highest legal authority of the corporation, reiterated that the expenditure rule allows economically sustainable investments and that resurfacing and public lighting fall within that parameter. But the opposition continued in its thirteenth.
All in all, what worries me the most is that the opposition councilors, Compromís, IMA and the non-attached councilor Toni Colomer, lose the notion that we are all in politics to defend our neighbors and improve the quality of life of our people. . We cannot forget those who live in our urbanizations. The streets are received by the town hall. It is our obligation to guarantee its maintenance. The opposition, however, seems more concerned with putting sticks in the wheels of municipal management, blocking the town hall and fueling the spiral of "the worse the better". They are not able to see that they are not boycotting the local government, but rather the municipality and the people. Its obligation is to supervise and control the work of the government team. They must do so responsibly and as fully as possible. But, apparently in yesterday's plenary session, they have chosen the path of irresponsibility and blockade.
And there is the paradox that while Compromis rejects Montoro's policy outright, his municipal group in Benitatxell's Poble Nou does the wave to the PP minister and reveals himself as more monotonous than Montoro himself. Of course, we had not seen everything in politics.
