Mena: «The Department of Ports has abandoned public moorings for the benefit of large vessels»

May 28 from 2018 - 00: 28

The Group of Associations of Moorings of direct management of the Valencian Community met, this past weekend, in the facilities of the port of Xàbia. In it there were represented amarristas of all the province of Alicante, from Torrevieja to Dénia.

Some of the issues discussed were the possible reduction of public moorings in the Community and the LIC in the Marina Alta, although for them, this was a secondary issue.

The president of the Association of Users of Moorings Port-Xàbia, Miguel Mena, said that "The Department ignores us despite the written requests we have made, we have not received any response."

Mena pointed out that "The nautical mooring sector in the community represents a more affordable group to the townspeople, who lives near the sea and not the lord who has a large boat for his enjoyment".

As indicated by the amarristas in the meeting, "The public moorings are linked to the simple people of the town that lives in the surroundings, they are boats between 5 and 8 meters of length, they are boats of an economic level that the working people can support". And they added that "to the public moorings, the administration has abandoned them and a policy of elimination of these public moorings is being generated for the benefit of the marinas and large vessels, large companies with contempt of the flattest people, are detecting that when it occurs depress a public mooring instead of awarding it to a third party, the administration is amortizing it. "

On behalf of the amarristas, Juan Tarazaga, secretary of the Association of Xàbia stressed that this concern is general, "In the environment of all ports we are representing the entire province of Alicante that has more than 2.000 Amarristas that generate an important income to the administration, specifically, 2 million euros a year; in return, the administration is spent on moorings public only what sinks. "

Deplorable situation of moorings

The amarristas indicated that in the port of Xàbia, the 220 public moorings have neither electricity nor water nor any type of services, it is impossible to use the port slipway, it is closed to the public for the inhabitants of Xàbia. In Dénia, more than half of the water and electricity intakes do not work and in other ports they have sunken pontoons.

Tarazaga stressed that the meeting of all the representatives was aimed at "That the administration realizes that we are not willing to continue in this way. We have to protest because we pay our mooring and consequently, all these vessels generate business and work to the nautical and workshops of the town, not as the large vessels that fix their damage in large ports. "

Juan Tarazaga stressed "We are outraged. It is a general discontent of all public moorings, we are defenders of these moorings, of simple and hardworking people who cannot afford to pay a large amount for a mooring. The moorings of public moorings are not willing to disappear, we want the administration to attend to us and not look with different eyes at the large marinas and large nautical companies and abandon the nautical companies of the town "

In view of this general situation, the meeting agreed that at the next General Meeting to be held in September, the Statutes will be approved and the Federation of Associations of Public Moorings of the Valencian Community will be established. The board of directors of this group will be formed by the secretary, Pedro Rodríguez of the Campello Association, the vice president will be Cristóbal Plá Ronda of the CUPA of Altea and the president, Miguel Mena López, of the Users Association of Port-Xàbia. The official headquarters will be the headquarters of the CUPA of Altea.
