Manuel Bas Carbonell presents in Xàbia his memoir "Pasión por los libros"

January 15 from 2018 - 13: 00

Vice-president of the Consell Valencià de Cultura (CVC) and founder of the Bibliogràfica Valenciana Jeronima Welsh Society. It has the High Distinction of the Generalitat Valenciana, the Medal of Honor of the Consell Valencià de Cultura, as well as the Gold Medal of Merit in the Work, among other distinctions. With this curriculum, Manuel Bas Carbonell has become one of the most relevant names in contemporary Valencian culture, as stated by the Mayor of Xàbia, José Chulvi.

Chulvi made these statements during the presentation of Passion for books, the memories of Bas Carbonell, last Saturday in Xàbia. The act was attended by the author himself accompanied by his family, and the Councilor for Culture, Quico Moragues, Antoni Espinós, Paco Reus and Nicolás Bas, son of Manuel Bas Carbonell.

Said Chulvi "Through the words and pages of Manuel Bas Carbonell we can trace the cultural biography of the Valencians in the decisive decades of our formation as a modern society. And if it is true that the true homeland of men and women is his library, thanks to Manuel we have an inexhaustible country to go to ".

For his part, Moragues recalled that "the excellent work throughout a lifetime has made Manuel an admired and respected person, but above all dear". In that sense, the Councilor for Culture recalled that XÃbia presented the 9 d'Octubre prize for civic values to Manuel Bas in the year 2004.

Both Paco Reus and Antoni Espinós described different experiences related to the author's vast library and how this space became, over time, a focus of debate among important Valencian intellectuals.
