Yesterday, December 30, it was the last day of the year that the auction of fish and seafood in the fishermen's association of Xàbia worked. Thus closes an exercise that according to the words of the president, Moisés Erades "It has been lazy in catches comparable to 2015, which was the worst in recent years".
"It has been a bad year of catches in general. There has been no sardine and anchovy less than in previous years. With seafood it has been maintained but to Xàbia what interests is the blue fish". Erades notes that the port of Xàbia has always been a benchmark in the capture of anchovies, but that this year estimates that 250.000 kilos of the famous have been auctioned aladroc, more or less half than other years.
All the blue fish that is caught is exported to the various markets in Spain, mainly to Murcia, Castellón and Barcelona. They also export to Portugal and Italy. Seafood is sold in stores and directly to Madrid and restaurants in both Xàbia and the Valencian Community. Moisés Erades hopes that 2020 will be more beneficial for those who live from the sea.
Within a ranking of the ports of the province of Alicante, Erades considers the port of Xàbia the fifth in captures, far from Santa Pola and Villajoyosa, but next to the neighboring ports such as Dénia and Calp. By the dimensions of the port it is the smallest with important figures.
