The Department of Culture of Town hall of Jávea, under the coordination of the Arxiu Municipal, announced last July the III edition of the Vila de Xàbia Research Awards, endowed with a prize of 4000 euros.

The award jury met yesterday in Xàbia, and after deliberating the three works presented, it was agreed to select the project 'L'onomàstica de Xàbia en el segle XV', by the historian Josep Andrés Torres, as the winner of the III edition of the Research Awards.

The jury was formed by Joan Ivars Cervera, member of the Institute of Regional Studies, Rafael Andarias Esteuan, member of the Jávea Culture Council, Alfred Pastor Mongrel, member of the Friends of the Association Jávea Museum, Andreu Ros y Carrals, member of the CIRNE Foundation and Juanjo Mas Cruañes, municipal archivist.

On the other hand, the Culture Councilor, Mavi Pérez, highlights the importance of providing the municipality with publications that make our history and our ancestors known. This project of Onomastic in Xàbia has three objectives:

  • The study of toponymy, for the interest of making a compilation of place names of Xàbia in medieval documentation, which will allow both new documentation, or new variants, and advance the dating of the known ones. Always taking into account the term changes that Xàbia has had over time.
  • The study of anthroponymy, which in addition to serving toponymy and knowing the
list of names and surnames along with graphic variants, the notarial protocol documents also allow us to know the female name day.
  • And for him local historical knowledge, when carrying out the onomastic emptying of the documents, a brief description of the subject of each one will be noted, which will allow the daily activity of the Xabiero ancestors of the XNUMXth century to be disseminated.

The jury also highlighted Josep Andrés Torres' university degrees, as well as his extensive work experience and the number of publications made. The final work must be submitted before December 1, 2024 for publication.
