The best photographs of 'Les Pesqueres' in the 2020 calendar of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell

10 December 2019 - 02: 12

El Town hall of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell continues with its purpose of recovering the memory of 'fish them', a traditional and risky fishing art of the Marina Alta by means of which some hurdle platforms were installed on the walls of the cliffs to fish in suspension during winter nights.

After hosting, last May, the prelude to the photographic exhibition, the book and the documentary of 'Ink Nits', with the presence of some of its protagonists: the 'encesers' (name with which these fishermen are known), El Poble Nou de Benitatxell joins its drivers, Jake Abbott and Felipe Escolano, and collaborates in the sale of the 2020 calendar with the collection of the best snapshots of Les Pesqueres.

Specifically, the Department of Culture, in charge of Victor Bisquert, has collaborated in the edition of the almanac with the objective of raising funds to continue with the following goal: the edition of a book, which is expected, if everything goes according to plan, for this next year.

The calendars will be available from Sunday 15 in December. They can be purchased at the stand that the festeros and festeras of the 2020 will ride at the Christmas Market.

“From the first moment we thought it was essential to be part of this very interesting project that recovers part of our culture and our identity as a people and as a region. The 'pesqueres' is a unique art in the world that must be claimed and taken to other parts of Spain, and even from outside, to be appreciated by everyone ”, has pointed the mayor of Culture, who has encouraged other municipalities and entities to join.

"It would be great if other municipalities and organizations, both public and private, were encouraged to contribute their grain of sand through financing to get to do something big", added the mayor.
