The new life of Cala de la Granadella

09 July 2022 - 06: 24

La Cala Granadella, as is already known, is one of the most demanded destinations by tourists who decide to visit Xàbia and spend a whole day at sea. Getting to the beach in a comfortable way is the goal of many visitors regardless of the current restrictions. This action, repeated for years, has meant reinventing the accesses to this wonderful cove.

Escape from the crowds of cars and decongest the first line of the sea (known as the cul del sac Tio Català) have been some of the novelties that have given a new, and calmer, life to the Cala Granadella, for walkers.

In the first place, and after several demands by residents and neighbors (Association of Cala Granadella), the Avenida Tío Catalá, which gives direct access to the beach, has become pedestrianized. The main road becomes a quiet walk on arrival at La Cala.

A barrier at the beginning of this street prevents people from passing with vehicles and parking. The only exception in which a car is allowed to circulate is for loading and unloading in establishments, residents or companies of tourist activities, emergency vehicles or public transport (taxi or alternative service offered by the Town hall).

Despite the fact that bathers must carry all their gear several meters to get there, "the tranquility that is now breathed in this place is priceless for pedestrians and children playing," several of them indicate.

Parking alternatives

On the other hand, and in view of this pedestrianization initiative, the Xàbia City Council has set up a parking area for residents, municipal services and workers at the back of the beach. The new restricted parking space only allows access to one vehicle per property.

Likewise, a new measure of prevention, sustainability and security that has been given to Cala de la Granadella is the installation of anti-parking elements on the shoulders of the road, since in previous years, vehicles parked in these spaces invading the traffic lane and destroying the vegetation of the natural park.

Tourists who decide to go down to Cala de la Granadella can park on Pic Tort street until capacity is reached. A control barrier installed at the beginning of the road is the one that regulates the passage by car to the beach.

With regard to caravans or motorhomes, the City Council has installed signs that prohibit the overnight stay of these vehicles in this area due to the lack of care for the environment.

jetty control

The saturation of tourist companies at the Cala pier was another problem experienced by this small beach. Thus, a new control system for the use of the jetty has been put into operation.

On the one hand, although pending completion, the abandoned boats in this space will be removed by the police to enable a better area for authorized activities.

On the other hand, at present, and in line with improving life in Cala de la Granadella, a new measure has been established in which a schedule has been created that regulates access by day and hour to each of the companies. of tourist activities with a valid permit (controlling that there are no more than two companies per hour).

New enhancements

Undoubtedly, the new changes provide a better image of the Granadella. The actions carried out are part of 80% of the requests made by the Neighborhood Association of La Cala, but there are still pending works that will make La Granadella the paradise that everyone talks about.

The president of the neighborhood group, Roland Quesada, thanks the consistory, as well as the councilors responsible for each of the areas: Kika Mata (Services) and Antonio Miragall (beaches), as well as the head of the Local Police of Xàbia, José Antonio Monfort, the great work carried out to improve and take care of the Cala de la Granadella.

In addition, Quesada has pointed out to Xàbia.com that there are still actions to be carried out to finish providing all the necessary services such as the construction of some bathrooms (planned in the appropriate area behind the beach, where the ruins of the old barracks were located), as well as probably a picnic area and/or or children's area.

Undoubtedly, some initiatives that will add even more value to this tourist destination and, of course, a better image of Cala de la Granadella.

  1. Antonio Monterde says:

With the law of coasts in hand, all the beach bars have to be torn down, and return all that space to the beach. This is how it should be. It is an area of public domain, bone of all, not of some "beneficiaries" by the politician on duty.

  2. Angels Martin says:

At last!!! All these measures seem great and necessary to me, the city council that puts buses to be able to go and matter solved.

  3. Janeli says:

what about the residents of Pic Tort. They have to cope with cars constantly streaming by with their loud music blaring away. Peace and quiet has been shattered and no new life has been granted in Cala Granadella

  4. Pepe says:

Regrettable… As always closing doors to the poor worker so that the wealthy can be calm.

    • cove granadella says:

Excuse me, but everyone can go to Granadella without restrictions. We only do that to control the capacity of cars. Also on July 23 we have the Trenet.

  5. Pere says:

The socialists of Prohibido Prohibido have taken a liking to banning everything.
Grimalt prohibits bonfires in Dénia and going to les Rotes. Chulvi three quarters of the same in Granadella and Portixol. In the next elections he is not going to vote for them or his grandmothers. Welcome Vox.

  6. Javier says:

Hello, I am from the province of Alicante and I was last year for the first time in this majestic place, my opinion is that when the capacity, the saturation of visitors, and the prohibitions prevail, they turn everything majestic into nothing charming, I think not I will return more, I know that some will say that it is not necessary for me to return. But it is my opinion as a traveler.

    • emilio echpare says:

Neither feet nor head. We have to fight so that tourism does not destroy everything, but why do they continue to allow construction?
      They expose themselves...

  7. JuanSpanish says:

Village "Caciques". A children's area and a picnic area? Promote tourism when at the same time they are preventing it? Or are they more endowments for the residents "of the poble"? Caciques of la Cala for me, "my cove"?
The coasts of Spain are free and freely accessible to all Spaniards. «COAST LAW». And I hope that someone with knowledge will bother to apply the law and close their "chiringuito".

  9. Fair-Poor says:

Keep the entire Cala for you, locals! What if they don't go out to eat every day and fill the beach bars and make use of all the recreational activities they organize, they will soon close and join the long unemployment list! No problem.

    • Cala Granadella says:

Nothing happens, we have more and more friends and tourists who like to enjoy the Granadella; In addition, the 3 bars are full and we are looking for more waiters!!!

  10. Israel says:

And of course, prohibiting the parking of motorhomes, which is a vehicle like any other, being this prohibition illegal. Well, we will not spend our money where we are well received.

    • Cala Granadella Association says:

La Cala Granadella is a natural park and not a campsite. When you have 30 caravans every day, we have garbage and shit. So now it is prohibited according to the law of a natural park.

      • Iron says:

The parking of «All» motorhomes should be prohibited in Jun Jul, Aug, Sep, less than 10kms from the coasts along the entire coastline of Spain. They don't buy apartments, they don't rent, they take food and drink, they take up space and they drop shit. It is not to make profitable the possibilities of the very important tourism industry.

    • Luis says:

What problem do they have in paying for a Camping? Spend your money there, you will be very well received, in addition to being able to access all the necessary services that your camper or motorhome may need and which are precisely what differentiate them from conventional vehicles.

  11. IgnacioG says:

Excellent measures that should be applied in all similar areas. Especially the parking area for residents only. Let's hope it works and if not you can always learn to apply better ones.
