The story of 'La Criminala' reaches the big screen

01 July 2020 - 10: 58

Just a few days ago it was a century since the murder of La Criminala. One of the best known stories of Xàbia and that this time, coinciding with the 100 years since the murder of Bartolomé, a documentary based on the testimonies of the oldest comes to light.

Behind the cameras is Jaume Castell, a young man, linked to Xàbia, who for seven years, has worked, in his spare time, in recreating the history of La Criminala, yes, in the same place where everything happened, in Portitxol.

"Everything arose when my beloved Bernat Capò's book came into my hands. I decided to read it in the same spaces where the story is narrated, so I went to Portitxol, looked for places, from there, so as not to lose any detail, I started the audio recording of what the older people were telling me and in the end I thought, why not, I make a video and from there, this documentary came out "Castell explains to Xàbia.com.

A documentary that was scheduled to premiere at the Jayan Cinema, but due to the pandemic, was waiting; "I wanted to take advantage of the date on which the century was celebrated, June 27, so I looked for an alternative and it was screened, in xicotet committee, in the Portitxol area, but this summer, it will be released in the cinema"Jaume points out.

From documentary to film

The story of La Criminala (Úrsula Tachó), who murdered her 5-year-old stepson, has been told through novels, but now, with this audiovisual report, it could take the form of a feature film. And it is that, Jaume Castell, has already been contacted so that the plot of this documentary becomes a movie.
