The terrible fire that burned more than four hundred hectares ago today (25 of September) two weeks not only raised the alarm of the emergency services but also the town hall of Xàbia. Days after the tragedy happened, the mayor of the municipality, José Chulvi, while assessing the general performance that occurred in the Natural Park Montgó, also made self-criticism pointing out the little awareness that there is in Xàbia that the residents of La Plana "they are there".
Therefore, and trying to alleviate this situation, the town hall prioritized communication with the affected residents in order to resolve their doubts, learn about their concerns, and provide them with consistorial support.
Within these meetings, it was agreed to make one among the consistory, the director of the Natural Park, Carlos Linares, responsible for the Department of Environment and four representatives of the neighborhood association of La Plana. While the invitation of the latter seems logical, it was the first time the locals met with the director of the Natural Park to discuss issues concerning the same. General management also invited residents in other areas of the Montgó, as the residents of Las Rotas and Castanyar Lloma of Denia.
During the meeting, the neighborhood representatives were able to formulate doubts, move their demands and clarify what the first jobs of the administration will be like after the fire. The Ministry of the Environment explained that they will focus their intervention in public areas and that the owners must take charge of their lands.
The park proposed a formula to simplify the processing of permits that will be requested through a form of "responsible declaration". Once the form has been completed, the interested party will call the environmental agent who will appear on the same form who, if they verify that everything is correct, will sign the permit. As a last step, the document will be presented by check-in at any single window (Office of Citizen in Av Trenc d'Alba number 2) so that the territorial address of Alicante has proof.
This system to request the appropriate permissions for cleaning and maintenance of the plots will be extended to landowners that have not been burned and, as he said yesterday, will remain for the future.
The management of the Park committed itself to be very agile in the processing of this documentation "to save useless bureaucracy" to the residents of La Plana as well as to open contact telephone lines in order to resolve the doubts that this procedure may arouse its claimants.
