This 2021 marks the 125th anniversary of the arrival of Joaquín Sorolla in Xàbia. With this anniversary, from the Town hall a special celebration is prepared paying homage to the prestigious artist; a dedication based on different acts among which the delivery of the 9 d'Octubre Vila de Xàbia Prize to the Sorolla Foundation stands out, which will be collected by Enrique Varela, president of the Foundation and director of the Museum, as well as an exhibition that will be ceded by the Foundation itself to the municipality.
The sample, which will be exhibited in the Casa del Cable next November, under the title 'Sorolla in paradise', it consists of about 60 photographs taken by Joaquín Sorolla, in which the old Xàbia can be appreciated.
Given the possibility of being able to host an exhibition of paintings by Sorolla himself, Varela, who has visited the exhibition hall, has indicated that the conditions of the room, such as the large amount of light that penetrates through its glass façade, prevents the work from being housed , "That is why we chose to bring the photographic exhibition that we have."
Regarding the allocation of the 9 d'Octubre award, the maximum representative of the Sorolla Foundation, has been very happy with this badge as well as with the naming of the promenade where the painter himself spent so many hours.
