Last weekend, fifty members of the AMUX (Amics del Museu de Xàbia) moved to the Monastery of San Jerónimo de Cotalba, near Alfafuir, to see this monastery and the connection of the order with Xàbia.

And the Jeronimos monastery was actually founded in Xàbia in the year 1374 with permission of Pope Gregory XI. However, a few years later as a result of pirate attacks suffered by the monks, rey Alfonso of Aragon bought some land of Muslims in Cotalba and gave the monks, who moved in 1388.

After the visit, the hikers shared a meal at the L'Almàssera Restaurant in Castellonet, located in an old olive oil mill that has been fully restored.

And the activities of the AMUX contunarán with an interesting conference on intangible heritage in Spain by Luis Pablo Martínez, an expert in cultural heritage. Martinez will talk about the importance of this heritage and how to improve their protection. It will be offered in Castilian and English.
