Juan Cortés Cabrera wins first prize in the “Sorolla returns to Xàbia” Photographic Contest

"Sorolla returns to Xàbia", the Photographic Contest organized by the Agrupació Fotogràfica de Xàbia and the Department of Culture, already has a winner. Is about Juan Cortes Cabrera, who received the first prize.

The jury, made up of Toñi Soler (Mediterrània School of Painting), David Gutiérrez (historian and winner of the 150st Vila de Xàbia research award) and Enric Martínez (photojournalist), had to choose between 62 photographs by XNUMX authors, with origins in Xàbia , but also in the rest of the Valencian territory or points such as Venezuela, Argentina or Bangladesh. Most of the photographs inspired by the paintings of the Valencian painter, Joaquín Sorolla.

Cortés presented a snapshot titled Fisherman without fish, in which you can see a child on the beach with a basket without fish. The second prize went to Javier Canizares Gil, with Contemplating the Mediterranean, in which the protagonist is a girl standing on a rock with a straw hat. There was a third award for the best photography of Xàbia, which went to José Vicente Ferrando Cervera and his proposal Fent bogamarins, an image of a crouching fisherman catching urchins.

La Councilor for Culture, Mavi Pérez, was in charge of giving the first prize in this contest at an event that was held at the Jayán Cinema.

Pérez highlighted the work of the Agrupació chaired by José Gallo in this comxicotetion organized together with the Town hall and highlighted the high level of the work received.

Awards of the XII Photographic Rally

In addition, at the same event, the AFX presented the awards for the XII Photographic Rally, in which 34 photographers participated with 305 snapshots that took place between October 13 and 15 and which, among others, requires participants to capture various images. For example, from Primera Caleta, architecture of Ultramar Avenue, capturing a dragonfly, a view of Montgó or various endemic species.

The rally jury was made up of Pepe Mengual, Xusa Bou and JR Hernández Melero, who decided that the winners would be Alfonso Rotunno (170,5 points), Paco Costa (170 points) and Alfonso Bejar (169,5 points). Rotunno won with an image of two hands, with the finger pointing at each other, emulating the frescoes of the Sistine Chapel with the creation, and a background of a wall with a crack.

All the images were projected on the big screen of the Jayán cinema and the winners received the award from the Councilor for Culture, Mavi Pérez, and the president of the AFX, José Gallo.
