A young man is seriously injured after jumping into the sea from the 'Illa del Descobridor'

31 July 2017 - 15: 27

On 20 hours yesterday, the security forces received an alarm call to an event occurred near the Cala de Ambolo. It was a young man of 30 years who is seriously injured after launching into the sea from the Illa of the Discoverer in Xàbia.

Local Police, Civil Guard, Red Cross, Firemen and an ambulance of Basic Life Support of the Conselleria were displaced to the place of the event. The troops found the man on an inflatable boat that his friends had used to move him to the beach. The young man, apparently, had fractured both shoulders and had injured his legs when jumping from the top of the islet.

Once the evacuation by sea had been ruled out, the emergency teams had to initially stabilize the patient and immobilize him to get him upright with a stretcher up, where a SAMU unit proceeded to his assistance as well as transfer to the Denia Hospital.

The operation lasted about two hours. The friends, when moving to the shore had to climb to the top of the cove to call Emergencies, since there is no coverage in this area, nor a first aid service since the Ambolo Creek is closed due to the risk of landslides.

This is the second accident that occurs in Xàbia in the last 15 days. From the Local Police of Xàbia they appeal to the responsibility of the people and insist on the dangerousness of this practice increasingly difficult to control when practicing in any point of the coast that is not considered like zone of bath and therefore, does not have permanent vigilance .
