IROX denounces the anchoring of boats despite having free buoys

05 July 2020 - 09: 08

The Institut de Recerca Oceanogràfica de Xàbia (IROX) has denounced, with the publication of images on its social networks, the unconscious anchoring of some pleasure boats.

As announced by IROX, during this week, in the Tangó Creek, which is a marine reserve, some boats have been observed anchoring, leaning against the cliff, despite having free mooring buoys a few meters further in, "when we went to warn them that they cannot anchor there they told us that they already knew", indicate the members of IROX; statement that shows the attitude of disinterest and indifference to the marine environment.

With this fact, IROX returns to the fray with the lack of maritime surveillance and care for the Posidonia and our seabed, a claim that has been going on for years and that defends the Javea Town Hall with its sustainability action, but which is not within its competence.

The surveillance of the reserve is the responsibility of the State administrations, and there is no legislation that regulates this type of actions at the local level, as happens in the Balearic Islands, they point out from the IROX.

With this complaint, together with those made each summer by the massive anchoring of boats in each of the Calas de Xàbia, IROX hopes to obtain a solution and preserve the seabed.
