Javea history: Iberian Era

January 02 from 2013 - 16: 18

There are few news sites of Iberian time in the space of Jávea and almost all correspond to incidental findings, as with the scant remains of Els Tossalets and El Rebaldi, and the largest assemblage, but very late (s. II BC) found near the Teular carrer.

It is, however, of this moment the most notorious archeological discovery discovered in these lands, the "Iberian Treasury of Jávea", set of various pieces of gold and silver.
Comprising a headband (of 37,2 8,2 cm per cm wide and weighing 1336 grams..) Made of gold formed by three plates or sheets: a rectangular core and two triangular, smaller, at each end. This piece, designed as ornament head decorated with some fine snake-like or meander being undoubtedly the best-quality assembly.

Of gold are the following parts: two collars loosely twisted and fragments of another of intertwined chains, fibula ovoid and compact stranded chain.
The silver pieces, much less elaborate (240 weighing grams) are: A serpentine bracelet three tapes spirals and seven fragments of several others.

The Iberian Treasure of Javea, found in 1904 appeared within a ceramic vessel discovered by chance during a farm work carried out under the heading of Lluca, just where today stands Golf Club.
The chronology of this set of jewelry is among the III-II centuries BC.

I read on the website of the longest MAN collar does not get there until 1940. Indicate the following:
«Its greater length with respect to the other two with which it would form the dressing is due to the greater opening of its links, since it was placed on a painting with the image of a virgin of worship»
Where I can learn more about the data box?

The original pieces are, as indicated by Álvaro, in the National Archaeological Museum, on Calle Serrano in Madrid. But in the Soler Blasco Museum in Jávea, reproductions are exhibited, very good indeed, of this Iberian treasure. There you can see them whenever you want.
