El XIX Xàbia Jazz International Festival The 3, 4 and 5 will be held in August in the Constitution Square at 22: 30 hours. The presentation of this consolidated event took place yesterday by the councilor for culture, Quico Moragues, the artistic director of Xàbia Jazz, Kiko Berenguer and the Mayor of Xàbia, José Chulvi.
Moragues said that the novelty of this edition was the modification of the double opening concert, "In previous years on the first day there was a double concert and this year we have opted for one but with more cache".
So, on Saturday, August 3 will perform Ronald Baker Quintet, who is an American trumpeter who lives in Paris. "As a vocalist it is based on the best tradition of male vocal jazz with influences ranging from Luis Armstrong to vocalists of later generations"Berenguer described.
On the day 4 will perform Jorge Pardo Quintet, saxophonist and flutist who is a reference in fusion music with flamenco. Kiko noted that "Jorge Pardo is an indispensable figure in national music programming, he was part of the Paco de Lucía band and was nominated by the best European European musician academy".
The closing of the Xàbia Jazz, on Monday 5, will be in charge of Catherine Russel & her band, daughter of the artistic director of Louis Armstrong, "Catherine Russel is a figure who started as a soloist in 2006 and has won a Grammy and is an indispensable bet", said the director of the Festival.
For his part, José Chulvi, stressed that the Xàbia jazz festival is one of the great references in the Valencian Community, "In the last 19 years the best national and international performers have passed and this festival is part of a wide cultural program. Xàbia is a city of music".
The Xàbia Jazz has a budget of 30.000 euros and the ticket prices are the same as last year: Payment of the three days 30 / 40 euros and one day ticket 12 / 15 euros. The premises of the Plaza de la Constitución will be adapted for a capacity of 1.800 people and will be used for the Sara Baras show that is the 6 day of August.
