Employees of the Department of Health of Dénia participate in a European project on pancreatic cancer

05 October 2022 - 06: 45

Fifteen employees of the Department of Health of Dénia participate in the European program iHelp. The objective is to study the molecular risks, such as epigenetic changes or environmental factors in the development of pancreatic neoplasms.

The professionals, who voluntarily participate in the project and have agreed to quit smoking, will be monitored for 9 months, during which a series of health indicators will be recorded.

The data obtained will be treated anonymously and will serve to create and nurture a European collaborative Artificial Intelligence model, through self-learning, which facilitates the early detection of risks and the analysis of factors associated with pancreatic cancer.

During the next three trimesters, professionals will have group sessions and constant support from specialists in Nutrition, Psychology, Personal Training and Yoga. The information collected in real time will also help to create a decisive database when defining predictive and preventive programs for the disease.

It should be remembered that pancreatic cancer is one of the tumors with the highest mortality rate, since the diagnosis usually occurs in very advanced stages. For the scientific and technological team that leads the project at Dénia Hospital, the project will help define strategies and new techniques for early detection.

The Dianense health center is part of the iHelp project, along with 15 other institutions; between hospitals, universities and research centers in different European countries.
