Success. That is the word that defines the consolidation of the Riurau Film Festival, which kicks off next September's 1. The festival of short films born with regional vocation and international projection, according to its director, José Ramón Cardona, comes this 2018 more international than ever since the short 400 presented come from over 20 countries.
The United States, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, France, Italy, Iran, China or Taiwan are some of the countries from which short films have been submitted to participate in this edition. Of the total, 30 have been selected, in different categories, to be screened in Dénia, Jesús Pobre and Xàbia.
Short Express
As a novelty in this year's edition, the festival offers film lovers a challenge: record a short film in 36 hours. The participants will start filming on Saturday 1 day of September at 10: 00 hours and end on Sunday, 2 day in September, at 22: 00 hours. The stage of the short will be Jesús Pobre.
The prize for the best express short is endowed with a prize of 300 euros and a diploma, and an award from the public awarded with two passages yielded by Baleària and a diploma. Registration is free and is open until August 20 through the mail festival@riuraufilmfestival.com.
Gender equality among the themes
The festival will start in Dénia, in the Torrecremada park, on the 1 day of September with the screening of the Social Thematic Fiction section, dedicated, this 2018, to gender equality. Next, the first part of the General Fiction section will be screened, concluding with the short films of the students of the Escola de Cinema Riurau de Dénia. During this day there will be a special mention to the Valencian actress Olga Alamán.
Encontre Internacional de Film de Danza
On Friday, 7 in September, the festival moves to Jesús Pobre, where the V Encontre International Dance Film, organized by the Center Choreogràfic de Dénia. It will be from 11:00 a.m. to 14:00 p.m. in the plenary hall of the Town hall.
At the 21: 00 hours will begin the projections of the Dance Film section, with the special participation, out of comxicotetion, of films sent by the Merce Cunningham Foundation of New York. And then, the short films of the LGTBI Fiction section and finally the short films that participated in the Riurau Express will be screened.
Closing in Xàbia
The days 14 and 15 of September, Xàbia will be the scene of the projections of the short films of the Riurau Film Festival. The last two days of this edition will be in the Riurau d'Arnauda. On Saturday there will be a conference on cinema and marine diversity, and from the 21: 00 hours will be screened the films of the category of General Fiction. On the 15 day, the rest of the shorts will be screened, also from the Junior section and the shorts from the Escola de Cinema Riurau de Xàbia.
The Festival will end at the 23: 00 hours of the 15 in September with the awards ceremony of the two days held in Xàbia.
