The Xàbia cleaning service empties 1.000 containers a day

29 September 2022 - 18: 20

Xàbia has generated 8.382 tons of garbage in the first seven months of the year. A figure that represents an increase of 10% compared to last year. Recycling has also increased: from 41% in cardboard paper to 21% in glass or 7% in containers and plastics. And the collection of home goods has grown exponentially with the management of up to 5 tons from January to July, practically the same amount as all of 1.600.

These are the first figures of the new company that manages the street cleaning and waste collection service, a contract still in the implementation phase that the Department of Services has reported today in an informative meeting with all the municipal groups.

The mayor, Kika Mata, has pointed out that today the changes are implemented by 75%. A complex process in which it is the largest service in the municipality and which has involved the replacement of containers, machinery and collection trucks in times of difficulties in obtaining supplies and the training of all staff in a workforce that reaches 100 workers. .

In addition, the phase of this process that serves to test and make the necessary adjustments has coincided with the summer months, a time in which the needs and problems of day to day multiply due to the great tourist occupation.

Even so, Mata has highly valued the perceived improvements in street cleaning (now the streets are washed down daily with pressurized water and soap), the machines are electric, quieter and have complementary functions such as cutting weeds and Coastal cleaning with the renewal of the sieves and the incorporation of a boat for points of difficult access.

Regarding waste management, every day the 1.000 containers distributed throughout the municipality are emptied at the Campello plant. And a "review" service has been implemented that goes through the batteries several times to deposit in the containers the bags that users leave out or report the existence of spills or belongings.

There is also a specific container washing machine that reinforces the sanitization that was already done with pressurized water.

Green dots

As for the green points, spaces that had many discharge problems, a total of 8 have already been fenced off and surveillance cameras installed. Over the next few months, they will all be reorganized and control of access and use with cards will be managed for the residents of each area. This measure, together with the increase in surveillance and the strategic visits of the mobile eco-park to the most conflictive areas, has managed to considerably improve the image -especially in the last month- the mayor has valued.

The ecopark's hours have also been extended (now it also opens on Saturday afternoons) and solutions to the complaints detected are being studied.

pedal bins

One of the most recurrent is the lack of actuators to open the containers without having to touch them. In this sense, the mayor has advanced that pedals will be installed in some of the containers in urban areas to evaluate their social acceptance and technical result.

Another change that is already being implemented is the installation of some fasteners on the floor so that the containers are always at an accessible and optimal distance for use.

Upcoming performances

Regarding what remains pending, the mayor has pointed out that finishing reorganizing and fencing all the green points, the construction of a warehouse to house all the service equipment and implant the fifth container for the organic.

To conclude, Mata stressed that the waste sector is undergoing a comprehensive change and that the population must internalize that its involvement is necessary. That is why 2% of the annual budget is already allocated to awareness and education actions. In this sense, he has valued the great work that the team of environmental educators is doing with urbanizations, associations and schoolchildren.

The councilor has also advanced that a change in the municipal ordinance is being worked on to toughen the sanctions for those who do not respect the collective effort and continue to pour into areas not allowed.

Javea is by far the dirtiest town in the Valencian Community, not to mention in Spain for not seeming exaggerated.
Laziness of its rulers along with the pigs of its inhabitants, among whom I include myself. I would be ashamed to be part of the municipal government and to have been born in Javea. But we are governed by scoundrels!!

  2. mapixa says:

  3. Painful says:

This cleaning in Jávea is nonsense.

On the one hand, the complete incompetence of those who, day in and day out, dedicate themselves to "covering up patches", because they are totally incapable of managing this task. It doesn't give them.

On the other hand, they continue to put anything, whatever, to the Cleaning of Jávea (including the Coast and the Mountain)
There is always a Balenciaga or similar, always something that according to them is a priority, Cleanliness is not.

Well, we have a very sad panorama, the neglect in something as basic as the Cleaning of Jávea. Terrible.

I do not insist more on the shortcomings that we all know, those that we suffer and for which we pay Councillors, City Council and other bagpipes, but matters that are totally abandoned.

    A Pool they are doing…

  4. Jose vicente catala squirt says:

Hehe, they are quieter. I ask the Councilor to sleep one night in the old town, just one night, and she will know the noise of the cleaners that we suffer at any time of the night or early morning, unfortunate, skipping the same side of the Mayor's Office about noise.

  5. Anonymous says:

I do not know what waste they have managed, when I go down the street I see everything full of garbage

  6. Neighbor Arenal says:

The street cleaning is terrible, or better said, none, since the new company entered my street they have only passed by twice and badly, garbage is left on the streets, they do not know how to do the cleaning if they want I will give them a free class on how to clean the streets .
Disappointed with the company, very botched, lack of professionalism and staff.

The streets are cleaned like this.
Private classes for the new company.

The brushcutter is passed if necessary first if there are weeds.

Second, the blower is passed street by street on sidewalks and under cars that are inaccessible to the sweeping machine and piled up in the middle of the street

Third and last, once the operator on foot has blown the street and piled it on the street, then the sweeping machine passes for the final touch-up.

And spend more often to clean the streets that you can't see their hair at all.

Madam Councilor, if you don't fix this thing, I'll personally go talk to you and it won't be good.

    • TheGreatReset/Narrative says:

The blower is the dumbest invention I've ever seen. It doesn't solve anything, it just moves a problem elsewhere - just like all the useless politicians in this world,

      • Miquel says:

Well, it solves my life a lot if I have to sweep the two thousand meters of plot by hand, my goodness, I recommend mine, it's a silent electric sthil for €1.000
Politicians no longer solve anything, not even with briefcases.

  7. NEIGHBORS IN BEACH ARENAL XÀBIA says:

Madam Councilor for the Environment «the machines are not quieter», there are several times that residents of the Arenal area have complained about the start time of the machines and the noise of the compressors. If they are 'improvements' at the expense of the citizens, it would be debatable. Not to mention the containers "by hand" and without pedals...

  8. user says:

I would like to know, what is the amount that MI City Council obtains as a result of recycling and how it is allocated. Because everything is that the population gets involved, but there is no return on the part of the city council. Formerly, you compared the container and when you returned it, they returned the amount. With that, I say it all!!!
