The Benitachell has received a grant of EUR 1500 of the Delegation of Alicante to train people interested in creating their own organic garden. These courses will invigorate and strengthen the fabric of traditional organic farming existing in the municipality.
The aim of this new proposal is "Train residents of the municipality to create its own organic garden and thus revitalize the environment Abiar wells, recovering wastelands and enable people without land to grow their own vegetables" pointed, the mayor of agriculture, Manolo Segarra adding that "In this way, an environment-friendly activity is encouraged, and a space for coexistence, social integration and exchange of experiences will be created."
And, in 2012, Poble Nou de Benitatxell launched the project transfer of community gardens organic production through the Department of Agriculture and Economic Development, an initiative that offered space for growing vegetables for their own consumption in the emblematic environment Abiar wells.
The land was donated by private owners and the consistory he adapted as land bank to launch orchards. They can choose to plot all the villagers who wish and even collective. The space of the Abiar Huertos consists of an area of 4.000 square meters and according to the distribution made 25 plots are for all residents and interested in cultivating them.
The project started with the intention of stimulating the cultivation of vegetables, foster a new dynamic around agriculture and especially organic production, opening another side to ecological project BioMoscatell.
