Last June there was a drop in unemployment in the Marina Alta

19 July 2021 - 10: 46

The month of June is usually characterized by significant job creation and a decrease in unemployment, since it is a very propitious month for the growth of seasonal activities related to tourism and therefore it is usual to see good figures this month. The published data has confirmed expectations.

Two issues of maximum relevance have influenced the data, one is the effect of the pandemic that still has effects on the labor market of the crisis that we are going through and the other is the positive effect that is being had thanks to the growth rate that is taking the vaccination campaign, allowing activities related to the service sector to begin with a dynamic that they had not been able to have in the whole of last year.

The number of affiliates to Social Security in June, has increased by 2.534 people, reaching 57.482 affiliates, which translates into an increase of 4,61%. The month of June of this 2021 has increased the affiliation in more than 2.500 people. When we compare this increase in June with June in previous years, what is observed is that we are facing the best June in the historical series. In terms of affiliation to Social Security, we are facing a very favorable figure for the month of June.

Regarding the interannual variation of affiliates, the significant increase in affiliation in June 2021 with respect to June of last year stands out, which translates into a growth in affiliation of 7,9%. In June 2020, the decrease in membership compared to June '19 was 8,1%. This has been the trend throughout the first year of life of the pandemic, each month compared to its equivalent the previous year had considerable drops in affiliations, and it is in this month of June, when the best behavior of affiliation occurs. . This year-on-year growth of 4.221 affiliates in the last 12 months indicates that the level of affiliation growth continues to accelerate, knowing that the negative growth barrier is not broken until a year after the pandemic has elapsed.

By sectors, job creation was practically general in June. There are no drops in membership in any sector during this month except for Agriculture, which in relative terms fell 4,96% compared to the previous month, reaching 402 members. The largest increases in affiliation in absolute terms have been in The General Regime, where the majority of employed persons contribute, these increased by 2.312 affiliates and added a total of 37.465 contributors in June, 6,58% more than in May of 2021.

Regarding the number of unemployed, June has also been a very good month for registered unemployment in the Marina Alta. Unemployment has fallen by 1.099 people compared to May (-8,23%), reaching a total of 12.253. It was the most important decrease in the number of unemployed in a month of June, compared to the same month in the last 10 years. Therefore, we are observing the best June of the historical series, a behavior with an adequate sign, but in terms of still photos, it must be taken into account that this figure of 12.253 unemployed must be absorbed, because before the crisis, we were around the 10.990 unemployed (February '20). In year-on-year terms, we have significant reductions in unemployment (-9,18%), which translates into 1.238 fewer unemployed compared to June '20.

The decrease in jobseekers in the last month has been more pronounced in the case of men. Despite the fact that in both population groups there are decreases in unemployment, it is in men where it relatively decreases the most, a decrease of 8,54% compared to a fall of 7,99% in women. The same happens with regard to the percentage change in the last year, there is a drop in unemployment in women of 8,40%, while in men there is a decrease in unemployment of 10,16% in the last year. It can be detailed that at the end of June there is a record of unemployed of 56,28% in women (6.896) compared to 43,72% in men (5.857), therefore this gender disparity in terms of employment is prolonged.

If we analyze unemployment by productive sectors, we can speak of a full decline in unemployment. Where, obviously, in the services sector, despite having the highest unemployment figures (9.219 job seekers), is where unemployment falls the most compared to last May (-9,73%).

However, if we look at year-on-year rates and compare the figures for this month of June 2021 with June 2020, the data varies. The Agriculture sector is the most affected, with an increase in the number of unemployed in a
6,22% (+15 people), Construction and Services decreased their number of unemployed by 4,55% (-70 people), and 8,39% (-844 people) respectively, and Industry decreased by 4,82 % (-28 people).

By calculating the unemployment rate in the Marina Alta, it is observed that it has decreased by almost two points compared to May, reaching an estimated unemployment rate of 17,57%.

Again, as in previous analyzes of the labor market, it is necessary to know the evolution of the total number of ERTEs and thereby recognize the so-called “effective affiliation” -not all the people listed as affiliated to social security are effectively working- and to this must know the population in ERTE. If previously positive values of social security affiliation were appreciated, the level of optimism in the labor market is even higher when analyzing the ERTE data.

In the month of June, no temporary employment regulation file was added in the Marina Alta, which means that the 3.776 ERTE requested since the beginning of the pandemic continue to be maintained, which have affected around 15.615 affiliates. It is important to note that in the face of the economic crisis resulting from covid-19, 21 companies have requested ERE, with the consequent closure of the activity, which has caused more than 100 people (111) to permanently cease their employment relationship with the company . After a new rebound that occurred in January and February 2021 (642 ERTE), we have had four consecutive months of uninterrupted declines, which is indicative of a progressive recovery and return to activity of the affected workers.

Regarding contracts, they provide us with a clear measure of the dynamics of employment in the labor market in terms of the creation or not of opportunities, especially for people who are unemployed. In June, 472 permanent contracts and 5.407 temporary contracts were signed. There are very important increases in year-on-year terms, so if we compare with June 2020, the number of contracts is more than doubled, specifically in the case of temporary contracts (increase of 130,97%), typical of the temporary reinforcement of personnel in the sector services, so characteristic in the summer months. Behind the temporary contracts is a large part of the tourist activity scheduled for summer. In this case, there is a positive reading in hiring during the month of June, since taking a pre-crisis year as a reference, we observe an improvement in more than 300 contracts signed during this month than what was produced in June 2019 (different is when We are talking about quarterly hiring, in this second quarter of 2021 we are still below the hiring of second quarters of previous years -except for the 2nd quarter of 2020-).

Compared to the previous month, the increase in hiring has been 52,82% or what is the same, 2.032 more contracts than in May 2021. Special mention of the fact that permanent hiring has fallen by 3,28% in the last month in favor of temporary hiring, which has grown by 60,97 compared to May. Differences can be seen in the variation of hiring by sex with respect to the previous month, thus hiring in women has increased by 58,27% compared to May and in men by 47,64%, these data are complemented by the number of contracts signed during the month of June that has been in favor of women by 50,45% and 49,55% for men.
