The assembly hall of the Archaeological Museum of Xàbia will host, on Friday, May 5, the presentation of the book 'Pandemic. When the passat is the proleg of the future, by Professor Josep Bernabeu Mestre. The event, organized by the Association for the Dissemination of Science and Technology - Meridià Zero, represented by Josep Lluis Doménech, will begin at 19:00 p.m.
Bernabeu, Doctor of Medicine and Professor of History of Science at the University of Alicante, will explain to attendees how people's lives have been marked by pandemics.
The book helps to understand, in a didactic way, the complexity of the factors behind a pandemic. Based on the idea that each period and civilization has brought with it a burden of disease linked to changes in lifestyles and the adaptation problems that they entail.
The publication also focuses on how the infectious diseases that have accompanied the human species have emerged, paying particular attention to the factors that explain their spread and epidemic behaviour. From the assumptions of what we know as applied history, the essay makes use of the past to understand the present and face the future.
Likewise, the publication includes Bernabeu's reflections on what he has experienced and learned in the COVID 19 pandemic and on the need to not just turn the page. “It is time to take stock, to improve what needs to be improved and, above all, to address the root causes behind pandemics and to do so using the lessons that history provides us”, indicated the Professor.
