The Thursday market recovers the textile stalls

30 June 2020 - 12: 00

Starting this Thursday, July 2, the weekly mobile market in Xàbia recovers its full activity and the textile stalls are incorporated into the new facility after entering the New Normality due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Councilor for Economic Development and Markets, Marta Bañuls, explained that the preventive protocols for COVID-19 have two basic measures for street vending: distance between the posts and control of the capacity of the premises where they are installed.

Thus, the Xàbia market will be limited to the Plaza de la Constitución, where since the reopening on May 7 there have been controlled entrances and exits and in which it is checked that customers wear masks and use hydroalcoholic gels.

Usually, before the pandemic, the stops were distributed by three different locations, so now with a single space and the mandatory distance extension, the number of posts has to be reduced.

The Consistory has proposed that the clothing, footwear or textile stores be organized in two shifts and each one goes alternately every 15 days. The fresh produce and food stalls will assemble in full every week.

Two markets have been ruled out per week (one with vegetables and the other with textiles because the sellers themselves usually have the week organized between various municipalities).

This solution is intended to give a provisional exit to dozens of small businesses that have been waiting to reopen for months until the regulations in this sector are clarified or made more flexible.

Vehicle withdrawal

Likewise, the Local Police of Xàbia reports that, starting on Thursday, July 2, the weekly market reoccupies the streets attached to Plaza Constitución, so please remove all parked vehicles before their assembly time.
