The Hospital of Dénia is a pioneer in the Valencian Community in applying endoscopy in lumbar canal stenosis

November 22 from 2018 - 14: 38

The Dénia Hospital has been the first hospital center in the Valencian Community that has performed an endoscopic surgery of lumbar canal stenosis. The intervention was carried out by Dr. José Lizón, specialist in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology at the Dénia Hospital, in collaboration with the European expert in the technique, the neurosurgeon, Dr. Erik Traupe.

The Dianense center has already applied endoscopy for several months in the treatment of herniated discs, with excellent results. According to Dr. Lizón, "Now we go a step further, introducing also minimally invasive techniques in the approach of the canal stenosis". The incision that is made is minimal, about 15 millimeters, and a few hours after surgery the patient recovers the ability to ambulate.

Channel stenosis

Channel stenosis, also known as window sickness, for the number of times the sufferer has to stop while walking, is very disabling. Its main symptoms are: pain in the legs, inability to move well, loss of stability and neurogenic claudication.

On the other hand, the causes range from congenital origin, to vertebral arthrosis caused by age, passing through the disc protrusion or spondiolisteis that originates when one vertebra slides on another.
