21 September 2018 - 12: 20

Vaccines play an important role in preventing multiple diseases to the population. This was one of the conclusions that were made in the III Vaccine Day held at the Hospital de Dénia. A meeting that aims to raise awareness among the population about the importance of having a high vaccination rate.

The experts called on the population of the Marina Alta to increase vaccination levels, especially in the Papiloma Virus, which has one of the lowest rates in the Valencian Community.

The conference focused on two round tables in which the myths, barriers and plot errors of the anti-vaccine movements were addressed. In addition, the strategies to be followed were outlined in the measles vaccine or the vaccination calendar of the adolescent population. The professionals highlighted the safety offered by vaccines today, "Since in addition to going through countless controls, they expose the body to a lesser extent, while increasing the immune response for longer."

Dr. Murillo pointed out the importance of vaccination, which "Together with the chlorination of water and the washing of hands are the milestones that have caused a real revolution in the last decades in the global health landscape of communicable and preventable diseases."

Reverse vaccinology

According to Dr. Berghezan, "Currently, very refined techniques are being developed that consist in sequencing the individual's own DNA to identify the areas with the greatest potential for disease. In this way, identical proteins are synthesized, which are those used as antigens, instead from
conventional vaccines. "

Dr. Valdivia warned of the importance of raising the population vaccination rate to protect the most immunocompromised, usually chronically ill, elderly and children. The shadow that exists in the vaccination of the adolescent was also alerted, since it is a population that does not frequent the health services. In this sense it is necessary to remind the parents that among the 11-18 years it is necessary to administer, in addition to the Papiloma virus for the young women to the 12; also tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis and meningococcal.

The eradicated diseases come back

According to the Chief of Preventive Medicine of the DSD "In Europe this year 40.000 has registered cases of measles, a disease that has been eradicated and that has caused 37 deaths in just a few months. The countries where the pandemic has spread most virulently have been France, Italy and Romania. In order to protect the most vulnerable groups it is necessary to achieve vaccination rates close to 95% of the population ".

According to Dr. Ricardo Murillo, one of the main health problems that the world population will face in the coming decades is resistance to antibiotics, since there will be no effective antibiotics against many bacteria.

In the presentation of the day they were present; the Managing Director of the DSD, Luis Carretero; the Director of the Center of Public Health of Dénia, Pascual Martí; the DSD Assistance Director, Juan Cardona and the Director of Care and Services of the DSD, Alfredo Moreno.

In the first round table entitled Myths and barriers of vaccination the Public Health Doctor of Dénia, María Gironés; the faculty of the Basic Zone of Pego, Ricardo Murillo and the Pediatrician of the Hospital of Dénia, Alicia Berghezan.
