Dénia Hospital celebrates 'World Dysphagia Day' with an open day

Dénia Hospital hosts, next Thursday, December 12, the World Dysphagia Day with a day of open doors for patients and family, at the main entrance of the dianense health center.

The event will be attended by members of patient associations, related to dysphagia such as: the Valencian Association of Operators of the Larynx, Parkinson Dénia Association, Family Association of Alzheimer -AFA Teulada-, The Spanish Association Against Cancer -AECC- and Help of Denia.

The Dénia Hospital Speech Therapist, María Femenía, accompanied by the Nutritionist, Leticia Sansaloni will chair an information table to promote professional teams and support local health services. The objective is to disseminate the work carried out by the multidisciplinary team of the Dénia Hospital, which deals with the integral care of dysphagia. It involves professionals from Digestive, Neurology, Rehabilitation, Speech Therapy, Otolaryngology, Endocrinology, Speech Therapy, Nursing and Dietetics and Nutrition.

In addition to the associations and professionals of the Hospital of Dénia, the event will also include the participation of music therapists from the cuidArt art project and volunteers from the Dénia Red Cross, who will demonstrate the Heimlich maneuver.

What is dysphagia?

Dysphagia is a subjective sensation of difficulty for food to pass from the mouth. It is also a highly prevalent symptom, which may be due to multiple pathological processes, both structural and functional and localized at the oropharyngeal or esophageal level.
