"The Elephant in the Auditorium"

May 06 from 2023 - 06: 52

As councilor for Culture, and together with the mayor José Chulvi, I have lived eight wonderful years; perhaps the most intense, difficult and exciting period of my working life. A time dedicated to Xàbia and to culture, I want to believe that with some successes and, without a doubt, with some thorn in it.

Today we are a benchmark for programming 52 weeks of the year, for all audiences, for all tastes and in all formats. On weekends that start on Thursdays and that - through the different festivals, the collaboration of associations and the programming of the rooms - offer music, photography, humor, dance, cinema, theater, fashion, painting, literature...

Eight years later we have consolidated the most important festivals (Xàbia Jazz and Xàbia Folk, for example) and we have added some new ones that are already part of our life, such as Xàbia Negra or the Blues and Swing shows. And we have made our names universal like Sorolla and Balenciaga.

We have looked outside to bring the best, but also at home to give outlet to the talent of our people, expressed in groups such as the Center Artístic Musical, the Grup de Danses Portitxol, Xirimitab's, the Orfeón, l'Agrupació Fotogràfica, l'Escola of Cinema Riurau, Escacs Vivents, Ojos Rojos... And above all we have made an effort to fill not only the rooms with life, such as the House of Culture, the multipurpose room, the Duanes Library, the church of Sant Bertomeu and Duanes, the Riurau or the Casa del Cable, but also streets, squares and beaches.

But the room has an elephant and we have to talk about it. An elephant that hurts me.

As a musician, years ago, I had heard the promise of the audience. They even showed us a model that cost a fortune and should be in the recycling container.

Our project however was different. It was real. We had done all the necessary work: we had the money, the political will, the project, the plans, and we had awarded it. An enormous bureaucratic work that had to result in the audience that Xàbia deserved.

But the company that won the contest, with all the legal guarantees and under the supervision of the technicians, abandoned the work. Without reasons. Because that was his way of acting: bidding for a lot of public works, winning contracts and then executing the most greedy... leaving tens of thousands of residents harmed.

But we do not give up. We went to court, we defended the interests of Xàbia, we won, we resolved the contract and we started again. From the beginning until re-awarding a work in which I told José Chulvi, half jokingly half seriously, that if they let us “anàvem a pose nosaltres els blocs”.

And for the second time a company, abusing its position of advantage in public contracts, did the same as the first. I know it's hard to understand. Because if they do that to an individual, the joke lasts a minute: the defaulter is thrown out and whoever you want is hired. But in the Administration this is not the case.

Why am I telling you this? Because the Auditorium is the thorn with which I leave. But also to share with you a certainty: we are going to finish it. Sure. Just as we have made a pool that seemed impossible. Just like we took the cars out of the Montañar when no one dared. Just like we have protected 10 million m2 when no one else believed in it. Just as we have lowered the IBI when others raised it by 500%.

We are going to end it because we deserve it. For all the musicians and musicians of our town. For all the neighbors who love culture. For dignity. Because in Xàbia difficulties change our pace, but they do not twist our path.

And you and I are going to see it.

Face that hàgem d'anar to pose the pads!

Quico Moragues- Councilor of Culture

Comments
  1. Sandra says:

Confirmed, he is the elephant, and the Auditorium is the pool where he splashes.

    There was nothing but bluff.

  2. Andale says:

The elephant is he? Is the auditorium the pool?

  3. javi says:

I have a very positive opinion of the work of Mr. Moragues in the area of Culture. but I disagree with his generous interpretation of the political work of the government team and his mayor. Perhaps it is out of friendship or prudence and discretion.
Chulvi goes about his business, it is human not to lose a job, but it can be done with a little less career ambition.
Rest Quico, and don't let yourself be confused or equaled with people with so little human and political quality.

  4. sonia kleyman says:

We have the chance to improve things on May 28th. Don't let Chulvi in again – please.

    • Chulvi no more says:

We will try, but there are a lot of people with selfish interests who will back that terrible major.

  5. NEIGHBORS IN BEACH ARENAL XÀBIA says:

Mr. Moragues, we do not know the secrets of the forest 'oddise' around the Auditorium, but we do know of the forest, the cultural neglect of the Arenal area (which is also part of Xàbia) disgrace the promises that you are going to make in the previous Electoral campaign (it's on the internet, so I can check if it's obligatory for you to vote). In quatre years there has not been 'mogut' absolutely res to equip this area, with more than a thousand people living all over the world, res d'un espai, a center, a lloc with the ability to spend time reading, connecting to the internet or fer a small sample of qualsevol tipus. Mentre -i ho sap millor que nosaltres- tenen centers al poble mig buits, un llàstima d'esforç. Is your program for four years after the rest of the term or not? Thank you.

  6. Manuela says:

But these from the Jávea government think we are assholes?
Stop making excuses, admit that you had no fucking idea of doing anything, years ago, and that you still don't know how to do anything right, you piece of hick packages.
How do they say such laughable excuses?
Shame on others you give and a lot
There will still be people who vote for you, what a pain so much stupidity together, what a bunch of wretches.

  7. Juan says:

We must thank Moragues for this memory of his work as councilor for Culture and I would invite the rest of the councilors to make a similar memory of his work throughout his development in one or more legislatures and also those of other parties that govern in the municipality to have a real history of the government of the municipality. The pros and cons. If it is necessary for everyone to "undress" as Moragues has done, it is more necessary for those who no longer appear or will not be in the next legislature. History is written by all of us and although there will always be lights and shadows and opinions are painted according to the glass with which they are looked at, possible self-criticism is better since this shows paths to others to walk and avoid tripping over the same stone in other ocasions.
A hug, friend Francisco Moragues and I wish you that the peace of mind that not having other responsibilities will give you is something you deserve for the good of music and your mental and personal health. .

    • Guardian says:

Undress? This string of manipulations without any shame for the nonsense they have had with ALL THE WORKS and the disastrous management of Jávea? That we have containers that we lift with our hands and a town full of garbage and poorly lit! We don't have police! That the mountains have been loaded with infamous works!

The only thing that strips him (metaphorically, lorzas aside) is what the comment below signed by "Incredible what this man has" says.

      • Hugo says:

"Lorzas aside..." You are a shitty person.

        • Lazarus says:

          The profound retard spoke

        • Gardian and give Hugo from behind, who likes says:

Hugo, I'm not going to discover that you already are that. No one doubts that if you support this guy taking us for idiots after so many years disgracing Jávea (which some of us care a lot about) it is because you are a relative of his or get paid from the town hall scam.

I wish you what you're going to have: to be a red shit that eats itself to death from the inside.

Yes, these people get fat at our expense.

    • shameful says:

      You are Morgues, right?

      • Guardian says:

He, or a plugged-in official, or his cousin or the one who eats as much as him (thanks to him).

Flirts paid by all unfortunately Jávea.

        • Observer says:

Seeing the kind of shit that you are gives me a special pleasure the host that you are going to hit.

        • Observer is Moragues with two more kilos says:

Observer, seeing who you defend, it's clear that the shit is you.

And what do you like, don cacotas.

  8. NEIGHBORS IN BEACH ARENAL XÀBIA says:

Mr. Moragues, we do not know the ins and outs of your 'odyssey' with the Auditorium, but we do know about your cultural neglect in the Arenal area (which is also part of Xàbia) despite the promises you made in the previous electoral campaign (it is in internet, you can refer to it if you have forgotten your own words). In four years it has not 'moved' absolutely anything to provide this area, with more than a thousand people living all year round, nothing with a space, a center, a place where you can go to read, connect to the Internet or carry out a small sample of any kind. While -and you know it better than us- they have centers in the town half empty, a pity of effort. Is it in your program for the next four years to pay attention to the rest of the term or not? Thank you.

    • Chungui go home says:

If there is something in the program of these people, it is indifferent to them. They have been advancing in neglect because with that they lived well, and with four photos of Chulvi with a Sorolla crap they compensated for failed works, fires that contaminated us, fires that devastated Jávea, or shameful public services (that non-existent and vague police, those streets with darkness and weeds, that shitty asphalt…).

Chulvi should flee Jávea forever, and if he doesn't know, it's because he wasn't enough to be a talk show host at the Baret.

If I was smart, I'd drop this.

  9. Incredible what of this gentleman says:

You have to have them square. What has happened to you with the works during two legislatures that no town in Spain should be talking about you in the news: Thiviers, the works of the institute, the second Montañar, the swimming pool (which did the same to you but you paid there because there were elections), of course the auditorium, and all for the same reason that we are without policemen who go to other towns, you have no idea how to manage things.

They have slipped you not one, but in each and every one of the works and with the same scam and you have been unable to learn. You are the candy of the trileros. And you still stick out your chest talking about small-time festivals that in many cases already existed. And you talk about the IBI that you lower just before the elections after years of breaking previous promises; You set the rate at its highest point so as not to give up the increase in the cadastre, while you scammed the entire town by denying the return of what was unfairly collected that corresponded to us (and threatening that if we appealed you would raise taxes).

But how can we forget the fire that kept us drowning in cancerous shit for months and that couldn't be solved until it was published? How can we forget the emissary throwing shit into the sand that you denied until the beach was closed? How can we forget that the Montañar you brag about is not only horrible, a monstrosity that no one understands, but that it is dotted with shitty wipes every now and then because AGAIN you don't even know how to manage the sewage system? The only thing you have done is commission a report to see how to fix the sewers, just as you commissioned a report to see why there were no police (it was not necessary: you do not pay them well, you raised their salaries ONE MONTH BEFORE THE ELECTIONS).

Look at the grotesque works in San Antonio, on the Sardinera, the blocks and more blocks where a soul does not fit, and above all, one more digestion that ends up in that overflowing sewer. You are going to make us pay to go to each cove. You left us without the best venues, the ones that created the most wealth last summer because you have not been able to process a single license. Bambula does more for culture with its saraos than you do with our taxes.

You have to have very, very little shame, whatever your name is.

  10. Blasco says:

    What is this tantrum for?
The Auditorium is not finished because you are the worst managers that Jávea has ever had.
    Always blaming others...
Stop being a whiner, you have less blood than a rag, come on!
Another insult to the citizen, regrets of the PSOE, leave us now please!

Unfortunate this whining of the Campaign, unfortunate.
