At the end of the 90s, the Festival Commission of the Mare de Déu del Loreto promoted the creation of a comic that explained the history of Xàbia in a simple and fun way.
The publication had the collaboration of a prestigious Belgian graphic artist: Franz Drappier, one of the main representatives of realistic cartoonists and 'father' of dozens of Franco-Belgian comic strip heroes. It was Francisco Pastor, recently deceased, who put the festeros in contact with the artist, who had settled in Xàbia and devoted significant energy to capturing with drawings the historical information provided by the municipal archaeologist, Ximo Bolufer.
The result was 'The Adventures of Xàbia' a jewel for collectors made up of three volumes that were published in 1998, 1999 and 2000. The Loreto Commission even launched some cardboard covers to round out the collection, which it has not been able to continue distributing because the first volume sold out decades ago.
Now, the Department of Culture, through the Arxiu Municipal, has reissued this first publication -which illustrates ancient history from the first settlers to the Christian reconquest- so that the festeros can complete the collection and make them available to all interested parties (they can be purchased at the local festero) in order to raise funds for the next celebrations.
The reissue of this issue fully respects the original and has only updated the archaeologist's final text to incorporate information extracted from later excavations.
