Costas accepts reduced to serfdom 20 meters of shoreline protection of Benitatxell

29 June 2016 - 15: 52

The new demarcation of the maritime-terrestrial public domain in the 3.250 meters of the Poble Nou de Benitatxell coastline will ultimately only partially affect two homes. The General Directorate of Coasts, which depends on the Ministry of the Environment, has agreed to reduce the protection easement of the new demarcation (before one hundred meters) to 20 meters. The hundred meters are applied, according to the Coastal Law of 1988, in non-developable land. However, this coastal strip is urbanistically consolidated and, in fact, there is a partial plan, that of the top del Sol, approved since 1975.

Representatives of the Alicante Provincial Coastal Service have held a meeting this morning at the Civil Protection building located at Cumbre del Sol with the affected owners and the mayor, Josep Femenia.

It has been clear that being within this servitude does not require demolitions, but rather conditions the realization of new works. The people in charge of Costas and the mayor have signed the act of removal for the new delimitation of the maritime-terrestrial public domain, which will protect the shoreline of the sea. That is, the beaches and cliffs, which are part of the LIC (Site of Community Interest) Penya-segats de la Marina, figure protected by the 2000 Natura Network. The mayor said that "It is important to make a new demarcation to preserve our beautiful coastline and ensure sustainable use of the coast".
