The Department of Citizen Participation and Education Jávea presented to the schools of the city and representatives of associations of parents project "Camins Escolars" a plan that is intended to implement a pilot basis this same course and which has been involved the local police.
According to Councilman Cesc Camprubí explained, it is intended that children can go walking or cycling to school, safely and without their families have to take the cars. After advancing the project to parents and schools, now is working on the most technical part, studying the most advisable routes for their security measures, such as the presence of police at conflicting crossings and a good system of pedestrian crossings.
It will also have to reorder or limit traffic around some schools to increase safety and eliminate traffic jams.
Consell dels Xiquets
The mayor noted that children themselves, in the Consell dels Xiquets, have said they would like to go from their homes independently at school or at least to meet his friends at a point close and then finish the way to center. In fact, this forum is child citizen participation in which has already begun to be worked and shaping the most appropriate routes.
The idea is to be able to put it in motion during the last weeks of class in an experimental way to detect the failures and so the next course to implement the routes with all the guarantees.
Camprubí added that this idea combines very well "with the aim of educating city that has Xàbia since this system it is more educational, as that enhances the socialization of children with their environment and also healthier because it implements a daily routine of physical exercise". Likewise, "the little ones learn to be pedestrians, assume responsibilities and know better their town and its inhabitants".
