The Department of Equality and Gender Policies of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell has received a total of 3.606,72 euros from the Provincial Council of Alicante to subsidize two important projects on equality.
The first aid, with an endowment of 1.382,44 euros, will be used to prepare the First Internal Equality Plan of the Town hall of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell 2020-2023. With this plan it is intended that the City Council be a more egalitarian administration, where any possible gender inequality is eradicated and the staff is trained to end the machismo and sexism that is still present in the public administration.
An equality plan for the general population was already launched in 2015, but after a study carried out by an equality agent, it has been seen that 50% of the objectives still need to be executed. Some of the pending goals, such as training in gender violence or egalitarian masculinities, have been carried out in recent months. For this plan, an extension of the term was requested in the ordinary plenary session in September.
The other aid, of 2.224,28 euros and within the line of grants for activities for equal opportunities and the prevention of gender violence, has been allocated to the Empowerment and Memory Workshop for Older Women.
This project consists of the recording of the documentary Our seas. Memòria of the gifts of Poble Nou de Benitatxell, an audiovisual in which, from a gender perspective, several older women from the municipality talk about motherhood, the figure of milk mothers and what life was like for women in Benitatxell almost a century ago. The documentary is in the editing phase.
