The Poble Nou de Benitatxell has received a subsidy of 40.000 euros from the Diputación de Alicante to reduce the risk of fire in the Barranc del Vicari i de l'Infern, since these areas, although they are located at 2,25 km from the urban core of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, are close to the residential areas of the urbanization Cumbre del Sol.
The mountain presents a degraded state and is sensitive to drought, fires and pests, with a landscape value well below the potential. It has abundant shrub and quality undergrowth formed by wild olive trees, carob trees, mastic trees, aladiernos, black thorns and kermes oaks that do not develop due to the excessive density of feet of existing Aleppo pine and scrub.
The tasks will consist in the elimination of dead pines, pruning of the trees and selective clearing of shrub vegetation. The actions will contribute to forest improvement and the natural regeneration of the forest, as well as reducing the risk of fire and pest problems.
The works also include the creation of fajinas for the reduction of erosive phenomena. There will even be performances in the burned-out area of Calistros during the September fire of the 2016. In total, the area of action is 11,60 hectares.
Councilman Environment, Manolo Segarra, has indicated that you want to promote valuable landscapes, "With well-preserved forests full of life, in addition to the maintenance of a rich and diverse fauna and flora and the use of the mountain for recreational enjoyment with hiking".
