Vaccines against the coronavirus are already a reality and since last Sunday, when it was received by Araceli Hidalgo, it is also a reality in Spain. Now it has arrived in the Marina Alta and with it hope, something that has been so difficult to glimpse for much of 2020.
Xàbia today has also received its first doses of the Pfizer vaccine, which is the first to have the approval of the European Union. Since 16:00 pm this afternoon, the long-awaited drug has begun to be administered at the Asilo Hermanos Cholbi residence among workers and residents.
The first to receive it was one of the users of the center, Ángeles Bas Cardona. Ángeles, 90, was born on March 10, 1930. She is a resident of Xàbia who worked for years as a photographer and now stars in one of the most anticipated photographs of the year.
Along with her, the director of the center, Bartolomé Chorro Catala, has also received the vaccine, being the first worker at the residence to test it.
Although the vaccination process was to begin on Monday, a logistical problem at Pfizer meant that the doses did not arrive on time. However, once received, the process is expected to speed up in the centers that have already received it, which are those that have not suffered any contagion during the entire pandemic.
I am happy for Angeles Bas who, in 1947, together with his sister Silveria, entered the art of photography after learning with the photographer from Alicante, Jesús Marín. Ten years later, Ángeles becomes Xàbia's quasi-official photographer. He worked with glass negatives. With his first machine, a Paxette, followed by a Voigtländer, he has his last, an Olimpus.
A woman who paved the way, now that so much is said about glass ceilings that women have, if they are an entrepreneur and that through their work they were able to know the social fabric of Xàbia. Hopefully the photos he took in his life would be recovered to have a fertile documentation of the Xabia society! At the time when she carried a battery with the machine in which she had to put distilled water and a few drops of acid.
