AMUX prepares the exhibition 'The Andalusian castles in the Marina Alta'

The Friends of the Museum Association of Xàbia (AMUX) is all set and ready for Friday June 26 present the exhibition "The Andalusians Castles in Marina Alta”. A work that will be exhibited at the Soler Blasco museum until July 30.

An exhibition that arises from the donation of the collection of drawings and photographs made to the Museum by Michael Stephenson, a British resident who takes 15 years working on this project.

Stephenson, along with his two friends, Anne Scott and Ted Adams studied the many castles, towers and fortifications, mostly in ruins, which rise over the mountains of the Marina Alta region. His work has been to draw plans of the buildings have found, carefully measuring the wall design for accurate scale drawings.

The exhibition opens on Friday 26 Soler Blasco Museum in the 19: 30 hours at an event which will have a lecture by Josep Ivars Pérez, a renowned archaeologist who will review the andalusina construction.

14 panels in which the defensive architecture of the region, 25 andalusines fortifications which will be reflected in this sample are collected will be installed. There you can see fortifications such as the Cocoll (Castell de Castells), the Bastida (Pego), the Tossalt Pere Antoni (Beniarbeig, Sanet i Negrals), and Xillibre (Vall de Gallinera).

From north to south the castles and towers of the region are described, beginning with the impressive forts of the Vall de Gallinera; Castillo d'Alcalà, Castillo d`Alpatró, tower of the Foradada penya, Gallinera castle and Forna castle. Also the castle of Ambra in Pego, castle of Segària in Benimeli and the tower of the Blanc de Morell in El Verger. The castle of Ocaive de Pedreguer, with the Beniarmut tower and the watchtower of Tossal del Moro in Gata de Gorgos.

Further inland in the Vall de Laguar with the castle of The flat, or de las Atzavares, the Casota tower and the Orba castle. Then the Xaló valley with the Aixa and Pop castles and the western end at the head of the valley, the Serrella castle in Castells de Castells. In the south, the castle of Calpe, known as del Mascarat, the castle of B LOSSIA in Xaló at the top of the Sierra de Bernia and the Canor tower in Benissa.
