Goodbye to the 'new Graüll' project: Xàbia will have a new school

08 March 2024 - 07: 20

The Pla Edificant with the complete reform of the Graüll school in Xàbia does not arrive and will not arrive. This is how the Urban Planning Councilor explained it, Pere Sapena, and the mayor of Education, Mavi Pérez, in the last plenary session already in this medium.

There have been many project modifications that have been made in recent years so that the facilities that have housed the Graüll school for more than 20 years could be completely renovated. But the uneven terrain and the more than 60 years old building, among other drawbacks, have made the government team propose another alternative after meeting with the Ministry.

Xàbia will have a new primary school. It will be the seventh in the municipality. He Town hall has agreed with the territorial management to reject the current project and give up a plot of land so that a new school center can be built from scratch, "this will mean less cost, offer better educational facilities to students and of course, have a greater number of places in the face of the great demand for schooling that the municipality receives year after year," said Pérez.

The Councilor for Education stated that with the new construction, "it will avoid transferring Graüll students to barracks while the works are being done. In addition, we ensure that if for any reason the work is delayed, students can continue teaching classes properly.

Mavi Pérez has stressed that for the moment the plot located in the vicinity of Avenida del Plà will be transferred shortly to the Conselleria and the procedures for drafting the new project, the new Pla Edificant, will begin, which complies with all the needs: gym, kitchen, elevator and adapted toilets, among other issues that the Graüll does not have.

What will become of the old Graüll and his students?

Once the new school center is inaugurated and the students relocated, the old Graüll will be renovated, "adapting its facilities and providing it with what is necessary, but without having to completely demolish it," says Pérez. The budgetary reserve of 6,6 million euros of the Pla Edificant is saved.

Likewise, the families of the students of this school may choose to continue their schooling at the registered center or transfer to the new school.
