20 June 2021 - 18: 52

After 12 months of waiting, the ban on fishing for bluefin tuna is opened, a protected species for which its capture was regulated by regulations by the Government of Spain. In this way, the fishing of Bluefin Tuna is prohibited but a period is established in which its capture by fans of sport and recreational fishing is allowed.

Thus, since last June 16, at 00:00 hours and until next October 14, at 23:59 hours, the closure for the capture of this species is open. Although with many restrictions for its fishing, fans have already gone out to sea in search of it. Although the tuna catch period is until October, the truth is that the quota of kilos is usually fulfilled in a week or a little more.

In the first days, the long-awaited treasure has reached land. Several of the sport fishermen have achieved their goal, to catch a piece of bluefin tuna; and we can say that it has been large.

In Xàbia, as this writing has learned, three vessels have caught large tuna. One weighed about 200 kilos, another 105 kilos tuna and another 60 kg. "It took us almost an hour to fight, but we managed to get it into the boat and not lose it," the fishermen comment on the 105-kilogram specimen.

Hours of combat between tuna and humans have led to the fishermen's reward. And it is that, as established by the regulations, the death of the tuna is not allowed but rather that it dies in the fight. In addition, to carry out fishing, the boat must have the relevant license and only one copy per day and a maximum of two per license each season is allowed.

Undoubtedly, during these months, many fans try their luck and go out to sea in search of a great tuna. And, according to the fishermen, there is an overpopulation of tuna in the Mediterranean.
